The WWE roster is about to get bigger with the addition of a major Superstar making her way to the brand from AEW. Jade Cargill has officially signed a multi-year contract with WWE.

How to Watch

On Tuesday, WWE announced that Cargill was officially joining its ranks, which means she’s likely stepping away from AEW, where she appeared less than two weeks ago. ESPN, which first reported the news, says she’ll be making her way to the infamous Performance Center in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday to begin her basic in-ring training and screening.

It’s somewhat of a formality since Cargill had already proven her in-ring prowess as the longest-reigning TBS champion in AEW. The 31-year-old wrestler made her debut in the ring two years ago as part of a mixed tag team match against Cody Rhodes, who also moved to WWE last year after co-founding AEW in 2019, and Red Velvet. She did so with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal at her side. From Jan 5, 2022 to May 28, 2023, she held the coveted title of champion, an impressive 508-day run.

Now, she’s going to be taking her talents to the WWE ring to compete alongside some of the biggest Superstars in professional wrestling. However, it’s unclear at this time if she’ll bypass the typical newcomer waystation of NXT or if she’ll move up to one of the main rosters of SmackDown or RAW right away.

WWE Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, took to X (formerly Twitter) shortly after WWE confirmed the news to compliment Cargill and welcome her to the WWE Universe.

“A dominant athlete who’s here to change the game,” he wrote. “Join me in welcoming the newest
@WWE Superstar, @Jade_Cargill, to the @WWEUniverse.”

ESPN notes that the Florida native began her career in athletics as a Division I basketball player at Jacksonville University. It seems WWE likes former basketball players. After that, she worked as a fitness model and amassed a massive following on social media. Her partner is former Cincinnati Reds player Brandon Phillips. Together, they co-own a Women’s Professional Fastpitch team called the Texas Smoke.

Cargill has a lot of heat on her career and is expected to make big moves in wrestling, and she just got started by making the biggest move of all to the WWE. Now fans will have to wait until her time at the Performance Center is done to see where she goes next and, more importantly, who she goes through.
