Rey Mysterio Responds to Logan Paul's Shocking United States Championship Challenge

Logan Paul shocked the world by challenging Rey Mysterio – how did the United States Champion respond?

Last week, Logan Paul alluded to the fact that he'd be jumping right back into the thick of things in WWE as soon as his recent boxing obligation was finished, but we didn't think he'd fire off a challenge as quickly as he did!

When Did Logan Paul Challenge Rey Mysterio?

On Saturday, October 14, Logan Paul defeated Dillon Danis by disqualification thanks to a sixth-round bench-clearing brawl that would make most WWE Superstars proud. However, what was arguably more shocking was how Paul turned his victory speech on its side and used his opportunity with a live microphone to call out none other than Rey Mysterio, the reigning United States Champion!

"Y'all know I'm a WWE superstar, so I'm gonna be back in the WWE – there are some championships there I wanna get; I got my eye on something, I got my eye on someone," Paul told the raucous crowd in the United Kingdom. "I'm an American boy, and I want that U.S. Title. Rey Mysterio, I already beat you once brother, and I'm coming for that U.S. Championship! Let's go!"

With that, Logan Paul officially fired shots across the pond toward one of the most accomplished Hall of Fame talents in wrestling history.

Rey Mysterio has held the United States Title since August 11, when he memorably ended Austin Theory's reign, which lasted an impressive 257 days – an eternity in modern-day WWE.

News travels fast in the sports entertainment world, and within hours of Logan Paul sending out the challenge, Rey Mysterio responded in kind.

"Did Logan Paul just call me out?" Mysterio asked his millions of social media followers. "I'm not hard to find, homie. Every Friday night on SmackDown."

When Did Logan Paul Previously Defeat Rey Mysterio?

At first listen, Logan Paul's post-match speech this weekend seemed tainted with one major fallacy: He stated he "already beat" Mysterio once before, something that made us scratch our heads. But sure enough, Paul is correct! While most members of the WWE Universe remember his first-ever match more for the post-bout shenanigans – The Miz delivering a well-placed Skull Crushing Finale to Paul, much to the delight of the WrestleMania crowd – he and Miz actually defeated Rey and Dominik Mysterio that night!

We shouldn't be surprised that Logan Paul wants to go after Rey Mysterio – while he has dropped hints lately that Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are on Paul's "hit list," it makes sense that he'd want to tangle with Mysterio again. After all, Paul's best shot at winning WWE gold is to beat a man he's already defeated!

When Will Logan Paul Challenge Rey Mysterio For the U.S. Title?

Nothing is set in stone, and as far as the WWE Universe is concerned, Rey Mysterio has done nothing more than verbally accept Logan Paul's challenge. No title match has been scheduled, no contracts have been signed, and most importantly, nobody knows when Logan Paul will actually appear on WWE television again.

However, WWE loves to capitalize on the hottest stories, and there's arguably nobody hotter right now than Logan Paul. A matchup between Paul and Mysterio with the United States Championship on the line would be a main event in any city in the world, so the WWE Universe should expect this situation to develop very quickly.

After all, Crown Jewel is just a few weeks away, and Logan Paul is intimately familiar with competing at that event – could the Maverick and the Greatest Mask of All Time clash in Saudi Arabia on November 4? We're positive we'll find out soon, possibly as early as this week's edition of SmackDown.

When Logan Paul and Rey Mysterio eventually clash one-on-one for the U.S. Title, something's got to give: Either Mysterio's reign comes to a premature end, or Logan Paul finally captures his first championship in WWE. No matter what happens, it will be a match for the ages.

You can tune in to Peacock to watch WWE's Crown Jewel on November 4 and Survivor Series on November 25. In the meantime, catch up on all things WWE Universe on Peacock.
