These Are the Official Matches Set for WWE SummerSlam 2025
It’s time for the first-ever two-night SummerSlam! What matches does WWE have in store?
SummerSlam 2025 is quickly approaching, and WWE fully intends on making this year’s Premium Live Event the biggest ever by announcing some truly WrestleMania-worthy matchups featuring many of your favorite Superstars.
These are all the official matches scheduled for the Biggest Event of the Summer — WWE’s two-night SummerSlam 2025 — and tune in to Peacock on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3 to watch all the action!
Keep checking back here as more matches are announced.
John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes - Undisputed WWE Championship
Four months after John Cena put an end to Cody Rhodes’ year-long reign holding the Undisputed WWE Championship, the two iconic Superstars will meet again in one of the most highly anticipated WrestleMania rematches ever!
It’s been a long road for the American Nightmare, having to go through hell via winning the 2025 King of the Ring tournament to receive another shot at the championship he once held. Defeating Randy Orton in the tournament final was the last step needed for Cody to officially stake his claim to the title once again:
John Cena, who is set to retire at the end of 2025, has successfully dispatched all challengers during his 17th title reign and will now find himself across the ring from a man who would love nothing more than to put Cena out to pasture a few months early. Fans expect Cody, whose storyline in WWE has revolved around the Undisputed WWE Championship, to pull out every trick in the book to regain the title, setting up for a legendary and historic main event at SummerSlam 2025.
Make no mistake about it: the course of WWE for the remainder of the year will be set by whichever Superstar walks out of MetLife Stadium with the most prestigious championship in professional wrestling around their waist.
Gunther vs. CM Punk - World Heavyweight Championship
During the July 14 episode of Monday Night Raw, CM Punk ran the gauntlet — and came out the other side victorious as the new number-one contender to Gunther and his World Heavyweight Championship:
While CM Punk hasn’t overtly crossed paths with Gunther often in the past few years, it’s nevertheless intriguing that these two men will meet with the World Heavyweight Title on the line. CM Punk, a perennial fan favorite who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is, has the misfortune of competing against Gunther, a dominant champion who is taller, stronger, and nastier in the ring than he is.
It won’t be an easy hill for CM Punk to climb.
But then again, the Second City Saint has made a career out of defying expectations and proving everyone — even WWE officials — wrong. If CM Punk wants to continue his surprising comeback story, he needs the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist, and he’ll need to dig deep against Gunther if he has any hope of doing so. Ultimately, this match could easily steal the show and be the bout that the WWE Universe is buzzing about come the week after SummerSlam — who knows what will happen!
Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill - WWE Women’s Championship
Like CM Punk, Jade Cargill punched her ticket to SummerSlam immortality by winning the 2025 Queen of the Ring tournament, setting herself up to be next in line to challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship.
Since debuting in WWE, Cargill has slowly gained momentum, picking up statement wins and climbing the ladder, but countless fans have perceived her Queen of the Ring performance as her true “arrival” moment. The first world championship match of a Superstar’s career can be daunting — many shrink under the pressure, but so far in her career, Cargill has proved she is incapable of that.
However, Jade Cargill should brace herself for the reality of the situation: it may not work out. After all, Stratton is as dominant a champion as they come and is seven years younger than the challenger — the WWE Universe has been running on Tiffy Time for months, and the Superstar has no intention of turning back the clock anytime soon!
In many ways, the WWE Women’s Championship match at SummerSlam is more than just a simple one-on-one match; it’s a litmus test for Cargill. Has she finally arrived? Or is there still more work to do?
Whether she likes it or not, Tiffany Stratton will give her the answer.
Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria - Women’s Intercontinental Championship
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
For the better part of 2025, Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria’s rivalry has been defined by how much they are driven to be the Women’s Intercontinental Champion. Becky took the title from Lyra, then Lyra returned the favor. Now, after Lyra defeated Bayley in a recent 2-Out-of-3 Falls match, she has the opportunity to wrestle Becky Lynch again for the prestigious title currently in The Man’s possession.
The best way for the WWE Universe to prepare for this title clash is to head over to Peacock and check out Backlash 2025 and Money in the Bank 2025 — that’s when these two Superstars put on absolute classic matches that should serve as a preview of what fans should expect at SummerSlam 2025.
Naomi vs. Rhea Ripley vs. IYO SKY - Women’s World Championship
After Naomi successfully cashed in her Money in the Bank contract at during the Evolution main event between Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY, effectively turning the match into an impromptu Triple Threat match, the three women will meet again in an officially-scheduled version of their Evolution match at SummerSlam — only this time, Naomi will walk in as the defending Women’s World Champion.
Naomi has been on fire, to say the least, so far this summer, and the way she stole the Women’s World Title away from both Superstars at Evolution will live on as one of the greatest Money in the Bank cash-ins of all time. However, the follow-up will be just as necessary as the first step, and now Naomi has to compete in a Triple Threat match against Ripley and IYO SKY — a match where both women will be looking for retribution.
Will this be the Summer of Naomi? Or will either Rhea Ripley or IYO SKY continue to feud over the top women’s title on Monday Night Raw?
At SummerSlam, one of the most unpredictable Triple Threat matches in recent history will go down — and the winner is anyone’s guess.
Randy Orton & Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul
There’s never been a tag team match quite like this.
After Jelly Roll’s cameo at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 turned into him getting physical in the ring — and receiving a well-timed Claymore by Drew McIntyre — things turned even more heated when all four men made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live a few days later on July 16.
In short? It was absolute chaos.
After Randy Orton and McIntyre brawled off the stage into the green room, Jelly Roll chokeslammed Logan Paul through Kimmel’s desk in one of the show’s all-time most shocking moments.
Hours later, the match was signed for SummerSlam. Yes, Jelly Roll will be teaming alongside Randy Orton to battle unlikely allies Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul. (Talk about a sentence no wrestling thought they’d ever read!)
Without a doubt, all eyes will be on Jelly Roll — rumors are flying that the Grammy-nominated artist has been extensively training for his in-ring debut, and the WWE Universe can’t wait to see what he’s capable of when he steps into the ring with three of the most imposing physical forces in all of wrestling.
Dominik Mysterio vs. AJ Styles - Intercontinental Championship
Dominik Mysterio has been running from AJ Styles for weeks, but at SummerSlam, the Phenomenal One will finally get his shot at the Intercontinental Title.
Injuries have prevented Mysterio from being cleared to compete lately, which means the Intercontinental Championship has not been defended since Money in the Bank. Now that WWE doctors have given Mysterio a clean bill of health, AJ Styles has made it his mission to get inside the champion's head, and well, it's safe to say that tensions finally boiled over during the July 21 episode of Monday Night Raw.
This title match has been months in the making; the two Superstars originally signed on for the match at Night of Champions, but due to Mysterio's aforementioned injury status, it was postponed. So, at SummerSlam, the WWE Universe will finally see AJ Styles get his hands on Dirty Dom in what will undisputedly be Mysterio's most formidable title defense yet. AJ Styles has done it all in the world of professional wrestling, but can he dethrone the current Intercontinental Champion?
Solo Sikoa vs. Jacob Fatu - United States Championship Steel Cage Match
As if the 2025 SummerSlam lineup couldn't get any more intense, the latest title match made official is guaranteed to turn up the heat: Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu will do battle inside a steel cage for Sikoa's United States Championship!
Fatu has been out for revenge ever since Sikoa turned his back on him at Money in the Bank, and there's no better place for revenge than inside a cage. With the latest developments in the years-long Bloodline storyline seeing these two Superstars at odds with each other (with the now-fractured Bloodline members choosing sides), a Steel Cage Match is the logical next step in their rivalry.
Fans should expect this match to be hard-hitting, unpredictable, and filled with the same kind of wild Bloodline-adjacent drama that has followed Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu around for years. Fatu is looking to become a two-time United States Champion, but will the odds be once again in Solo Sikoa's favor? There's no telling what will happen at SummerSlam, or who else will make their presence known during the match.
Steel cages are meant to keep outside interference at bay, but when these two men are involved, is that even really possible?
Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez vs. Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss - Women's Tag Team Championship
The unlikely pairing of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss has slowly climbed up the ranks of WWE's women's tag division in recent weeks, and now their hard work pays off with a title showdown against Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez. While the champions are no slouches (they have plenty of successful title defenses on their resume), the Flair/Bliss combination is akin to an all-star team in more ways than one.
Despite claims that they're not friends, Alexa Bliss took the extra step by having Charlotte's back during the July 18 edition of SmackDown:
This newfound camaraderie could prove beneficial during SummerSlam weekend.
Of course, it could also be for nothing. After all, when was the last time an uneasy alliance between two Superstars took down the reigning, established, and cohesive tag team champions? Fans would have to go back years to find the answer to that question, which is why conventional wisdom states that Rodriguez and Perez are the odds-on favorites to walk out of the stadium with the titles held high as SummerSlam draws to a close.
You can tune in to Peacock to watch SummerSlam 2025 on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3. In the meantime, catch up on all things WWE Universe on Peacock.
