How the Results of Money in the Bank 2025 Sent Shockwaves Throughout SmackDown
SmackDown just became even more must-see after the latest Money in the Bank.
Money in the Bank is in the rear-view mirror, and now, all eyes are on the Superstars competing every Friday night on USA Network — SmackDown is set for an unpredictable and chaotic summer!
Here’s what the WWE Universe should be looking forward to in the coming weeks and months on SmackDown.
Is Cody Rhodes the de facto number-one contender to the Undisputed WWE Championship?
Money in the Bank ended in dramatic fashion, sending shockwaves through the SmackDown locker room. Thanks to an assist from Ron Killings (known for years to the WWE Universe as R-Truth), Cody Rhodes scored a pinfall victory over John Cena in the evening’s main event.
In other words, The American Nightmare pinned the shoulders of the Undisputed WWE Champion to the mat for the three count — that’s big news.
While the outcome of the night’s main event was never certain — because whenever you have Superstar combinations like John Cena and Logan Paul battling Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, the outcome can never be certain — the result certainly has fans worldwide talking. Cody has been reeling since losing the title to Cena at WrestleMania, and John Cena has looked every bit of the living legend he really is as his retirement tour rolls on. However, conventional wisdom has fans believing that Cody is the de facto number-one contender to the championship — so where does the story go from here?
It takes a lot to pin John Cena — especially this unfamiliar, nefarious version of Cena that has essentially spit on every fan since he sold his soul to The Rock so many months ago — but Cody has needed something to hang his hat on for a long time.
Thankfully, it’s likely he found the catalyst to motivate him to go after what he feels is rightfully his: the Undisputed WWE Championship.
With all due respect to Jimmy Uso, the Undisputed WWE Championship is the top title in WWE, and it lives on SmackDown — and by scoring a pinfall victory over the current champion must catapult Cody to the top of the contender’s list… right?
Of course, the WWE Universe doesn’t expect John Cena to think so.
Don’t be surprised if, for the foreseeable future, Cena tries every trick in the book to get out of meeting Cody in the ring one-on-one — but by that same token, don’t be surprised to see Cody Rhodes do whatever it takes to receive the showdown he so desperately wants!
And that is going to make SmackDown very intriguing moving forward.
Are Tiffany Stratton’s days as WWE Women’s Champion numbered?
In the hours before the event, we called Naomi one of the WWE Superstars with the most to gain at Money in the Bank 2025. Now that the dust has cleared, it’s official: Naomi is Ms. Money in the Bank!
For the first time in her illustrious WWE career, the former women’s and tag team champion has the rare opportunity to cash in her Money in the Bank contract with a title match against any champion she wants — at any time. In other words, Naomi is the most dangerous woman in the locker room.
Conventional wisdom suggests that she’ll be targeting her own brand’s championship, which means Tiffany Stratton should start looking over her shoulder. While Stratton has had a fantastic title reign as WWE Women’s Champion and has cemented herself as the present and future of WWE, the brash young Superstar must come to a realization: her title reign will most likely end at the hands of a Naomi cash-in. Not a single female Superstar in WWE history has ever successfully defended their title after an impromptu Money in the Bank cash-in moment, so the odds are overwhelmingly in Naomi’s favor.
(Yes, you read that correctly; while countless men have failed in their quests to parlay the Money in the Bank contract into championship gold, the women of WWE always pull it off!)
So, at this point, it’s less of a matter of if; it’s a matter of when the inevitable will happen.
And that fact makes the next weeks — or even months — of SmackDown absolutely must-see.
Every minute that passes on Friday night signifies not just the passing of time but a minute that could have been a Money in the Bank cash-in moment for Naomi. This thought will undoubtedly be racing through Tiffany Stratton’s mind until it actually happens! The WWE Universe will be on pins and needles from the moment SmackDown begins airing on USA Network until the end of each Friday night.
Could Naomi cash in as early as June 13? It’s a distinct possibility.
After all, why would Naomi wait any longer than necessary to fulfill her destiny of knocking Tiffany Stratton off the top of the mountain?
