Meet The Narrator for Love Undercover, Comedian Jared Freid

From stand-up comedy to podcast hosting, Jared Freid offers relationship advice that fans fall in love with. Now he's providing commentary on Peacock's Love Undercover.

By Grace Jidoun

For the uninitiated: Love Undercover is a new Peacock reality series in which five international soccer stars date several single ladies in Los Angeles who are all clueless about their fame and fortune overseas. The pro athletes take on secret identities to find love based on personality and chemistry alone. Even for these studs, that’s easier said than done.

From people behaving badly to awkward love triangles, the hilarious concept leads to lots of gossipy fun and drama. But there’s another aspect that sets the reality dating show apart: the narration by outlandish comedian Jared Freid. If anyone can relate to dating woes, it’s Freid, best known for his standup special, 37 and Single. He brings his signature swagger to Love Undercover, leading the audience through all the wild moments with comical insights into how men think.

How did Jared Freid get his start?

Freid launched his TV career in 2018 as the host of NBCUniversal’s How Low Will You Go: Snapchat, where he challenged contestants to crazy dares for cash. But the Massachusetts native wasn’t always a comedian. After graduating from Penn State in 2007 with an economics degree, Freid worked in life insurance until a light bulb went off in his head one day.

“I’m going to be funny for money, I don’t know what that means,” he revealed on the “Trading Secrets” podcast. With finance in the rearview mirror, Freid jumped into improv classes as a sort of “comedy grad school” and eventually did stand-up for years in New York City.

As the host of the podcast “U Up,” it’s safe to say Freid is an expert on low-stakes romantic antics. He and co-host Jordana Abraham of Betches have amassed a loyal following of 750,000 monthly listeners who tune into their take on modern hookups and relationships.

“From interpreting dating app interactions and weird sexual encounters to defining the relationship and everything in between, they’re here to make sure you don’t die alone,” states the rather reassuring official description.

“U Up” was so popular that Freid and Abraham took the podcast on the road for a live tour through twenty cities in 2019.

Freid also hosts “The JTrain Podcast” twice a week. He and a rotating lineup of guests — including SNL alums Pete Davidson and Michael Che — answer listener questions about romance and “luxury issues” (for instance, lab-grown diamonds). Dubbed the “Dear Abby for Dudes,” Freid gets down to brass tacks when it comes to dating advice, dispensing real wisdom along with the laughs.

What are Jared Freid’s other projects?

In addition to co-hosting The Bachelor rewatch podcast “The Betchelor,” Freid has two comedy albums under his belt. “Always a Momma Bear,” debuted in the top spot on iTunes Comedy Charts in 2019, followed by “Socially Distanced… Of Course,” in 2021.

When not helping singles navigate the pitfalls of dating, the busy comedian revisits his first love: stand-up. Freid is currently on a cross-country comedy tour, the “Family Business Tour,” through early August 2024.
