Anna Pigeon is on the case.

Nevada Barr’s beloved crime-solving national park ranger is hitting the trails to solve some mysterious murders on USA’s new TV series based on the New York Times best-selling book series.

Starring Chicago P.D. alum Tracy Spiridakos as the titular detective, the show is equal parts adventure and sleuthing set against the stunning backdrop of our national forests and wild mountain landscapes—a.k.a. the perfect escape to spice up the summer TV slump.

As showrunner and executive producer Morwyn Brebner told TV Insider last month, “I think that we’re all really trying hard to stay human right now. And I feel like this woman, this intrepid woman who Tracy plays, who solves crimes in the national parks and is a full human person who is about helping the underdog, feels like a really good person to be putting into the world right now.”

And Spiridakos knows that, whether you're a die-hard fan of Barr's fictional adventures or a newcomer to the Anna Pigeon universe, viewers will immediately see themselves in the story's script.

“Anna doesn’t take herself very seriously," the actress told the outlet. "And I think the curiosity is really distinctly different, too, where for Anna, she needs to know what the answer is and at all costs, she needs to uncover what it is, what the mystery is, even if it means she’s wrong. She doesn’t need to be right. She just needs to know what happened.”

But before fans begin their trek into the wilderness for adrenaline-pumping exploits with Anna as their guide, USA Insider is breaking down everything you should know ahead of the show's premiere.

Where can I watch Anna Pigeon TV series?

Episodes airs exclusively on USA Network every Friday night. Following the season one finale, episodes will stream online on USANetwork.com and on Fandango.

Who stars in Anna Pigeon TV series? All about the cast.

Spiridakos takes on the role of Anna Pigeon, a former city slicker who becomes a national park ranger after a devastating loss changed the trajectory of her life forever.

Joining Anna for her sleuthing adventures this season are Frederick Stanton (Ronnie Rowe), an FBI agent and charismatic wanderer who chases crimes through national parks, Zoey Bear Child (Paulina Alexis), a young ranger coming into her own who looks to Anna as a mentor, and Bethany Lopez (Melanie Scrofano), the wife of park ranger Manny Lopez (Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz), who is working to find her place within the ranger community.

Anna Pigeon also features rising talent from Canada, where the series filmed. Jordan Sledz (Heartland), Crystle Lightning (Ghosts) and Nikki Hallow (Marv n’ Berry) are a few of the stars who are natives to the North.

Sledz will portray Anna’s old flame, Zach Redhill, a classically trained actor. Meanwhile, Hallow plays Christina Clark, a park administrative assistant who is a single mom going through a tough divorce.

As for Lightning, she will bring Frieda Dierke, a park dispatcher from the Anna Pigeon novel Blind Descent, to life.

What is Anna Pigeon TV series about?

"While Anna tries to outrun her demons following a life-changing tragedy," reads the network's season one description, "her focus turns to solving crimes that have taken place within national park grounds, no matter who or what gets in her way."

As the recently released trailer teased, Anna's mission to solve her park's mysteries hits a road bump when millionaire Jeremiah Paulson (Son of Anarchy's Kim Coates) gets in her way. And it's not long before Jeremiah finds himself with “a Pigeon problem,” as his character puts it in the first look.

While he warns her in the teaser, “I get what I want from the big sky to the ground and everything around,” Anna isn’t backing down.

“It belongs to everybody,” she reminds him. “If you even touch one hair on this park’s head, I’ll stop you.”

More about the Anna Pigeon book series.

Since penning her first Anna Pigeon book in 1993, Oregon-based author Nevada Barr has captivated audiences with her mysteries, many of which have topped the New York Times bestseller list. With 19 books chronicling Anna’s saga, Barr is no stranger to drawing on her personal experiences as a park ranger when she was young.

“When you’ve been together as long as Anna and I have, the neurons get all intertwined,” the 74-year-old told The Denver Post ahead of the The Rope’s 2012 release, number 17 in the series. “She’s stronger than I am, though. Anna isn’t a hero in an elastic cat suit. She’s just stalwart and professional.”
