A good detective is only as good as her partner — or, at least, as good as the FBI agent working the same case. USA Network announced another key cast member for its upcoming mystery series Anna Pigeon on Friday, adding Ronnie Rowe Jr. to the ensemble alongside series lead Tracy Spiridakos.

Based on the novels by Nevada Barr and set to premiere in 2026, Anna Pigeon follows a former city slicker, Anna (Spiridakos), who became a park ranger after a devastating loss changed the trajectory of her life forever. While Anna tries to outrun her demons, her focus turns to solving crimes that have taken place within national park grounds, no matter who or what gets in her way.

Rowe is set to portray Frederick Stanton, an FBI agent and charismatic wanderer who chases crimes through national parks and keeps his cool, except when it comes to ranger Anna Pigeon, per a release from the network.

Ronnie Rowe Jr. recently completed his fourth season on Star Trek: Discovery and co-stars in the upcoming new series The Porter for CBC/BET. Other TV credits include Pretty Hard Cases, Carter, Diggstown, The Madness, and Reacher.

Is Frederick Stanton in the Anna Pigeon novels?

Yes, Frederick Stanton, who Rowe will originate onscreen for the first time in the USA series, is a character in Barr's novels, of which there are 19. Agent Stanton appears in five Anna Pigeon novels (per Goodreads): A Superior Death (Anna Pigeon No. 2, 1994), Ill Wind (Anna Pigeon No. 3, 1995), Firestorm (Anna Pigeon No. 4, 1996), Endangered Species (Anna Pigeon No. 5, 1997), and Liberty Falling (Anna Pigeon No. 7, 1999).

The character was first introduced in A Superior Death, in which Anna Pigeon takes up a new post at Isle Royale National Park, a remote island off the coast of Michigan known for fantastic deep-water dives of wrecked sailing vessels (per Goodreads). But when a routine application for a diving permit reveals a grisly underwater murder, Anna finds herself 260 feet below the forbidding surface of the lake, searching for the connection between a drowned man and an age-old cargo ship.

While it's yet unknown which of Barr's 19 novels will serve as inspiration for the series — or if the show will craft an entirely new mystery for Anna Pigeon to uncover — there's clearly plenty of history to pull from between the two characters.

Anna Pigeon is set to premiere on USA Network in 2026.
