The show, which aired for three seasons between 2011 and 2013, followed the antics of Dani Santino (Callie Thorne), a Long Island therapist who finds herself struggling to make ends meet after a bad divorce. To help get her career and life back on track, she becomes the in-house shrink for the fictional New York Hawks professional football team.
While athletes are typically known for their physical prowess on the field, “Necessary Roughness” saw Santino get deep with the team and help them deal with their emotions and the mental strains that playing the game at that elite level causes.
Over time, her abilities make her highly sought after beyond just her team, looping in other athletes, musicians, political figures, and others whose very public careers demand they check in on their mental health often and with great purpose. When word gets out that there's a good therapist in the business, everyone wants them.
