The critically acclaimed comedy-drama series “Monk,” created by Andy Breckman and starring Tony Shalhoub, won numerous awards during its time on the air between 2002 and 2009. Now more than a decade later, with Christmas hovering just over the horizon, fans of the iconic mystery series are hungry for more Monk, and Christmas-themed episodes in particular!
The police procedural, which boasts a 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, is serious at times, but also has its fair share of comedic moments and wacky characters that suit holiday episodes perfectly! With the season upon us, here are all the Christmas-themed episodes of Monk that you can binge today!
Season 4, Episode 9 of the series is the first Christmas-themed episode the show has ever done and one of the highest rated episodes ever on IMDb. The official synopsis reads, “The department flies into action after one of their own is poisoned by a secret Santa gift at their very own Christmas party.” In order to solve the case, Monk worked undercover as Santa Claus in this hilarious, must-watch episode.
In another highly rated episode on IMDb, “Monk meets his long-lost father of 39 years…” after he learns that his estranged father has been arrested.
The heartfelt but hilarious episode takes place around the holidays and can be found in Season 5, Episode 9. Emmy-nominated actor Jack Hedaya played the role of Monk’s father. And of course, what would a Christmas episode be without the appearance of Santa Claus?
Season 6, Episode 10 is the third Christmas episode in the show’s history and follows a miserable Monk after he is accused of shooting Santa Claus, or at least a man dressed like him, and becomes the most “hated man in the city.”
Season 7, Episode 9 was the final Christmas episode in the show’s history and follows Monk as he is tasked with fighting the problem of homelessness in the city. The official IMDb description reads, “Monk’s Christmas spirit, or lack thereof, is challenged when he takes a case from three homeless men who believe their friend was murdered, and Leland's epiphany sends him on a mission.”
