Shelton vs. Stefani: The Buzzwords Showdown: Barmageddon S2 E2 Highlight

If there's anything we love more than some good, old-fashioned competition, it's some good, old-fashioned competition between a husband and wife!

How to Watch

Watch new episodes of Barmageddon Mondays at 11/10c on USA Network

On November 20, Blake Shelton – of Barmageddon fame – posted an intriguing message to his social media accounts, teasing a showdown with his wife, Gwen Stefani. Naturally, we were intrigued by the prospect of Gwen taking time off from recording her own reality-competition show and swinging by Ole Red, the iconic Nashville bar owned and operated by Blake himself. Naturally, fans were hoping to see the two iconic artists in a head-to-head Barmageddon battle!

As it turns out, fans got their wish.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani go head-to-head in Barmageddon

Barmageddon, currently in its second season on USA Network, brings together celebrities and everyday people (like you and me) in a classic bar games competition. This time around, Gwen and Blake found themselves competing head-to-head (with the help of some friends, of course). The above highlight from last night's episode features an especially memorable round of Buzzed Words that had us all admiring the vocal talents of the famous couple and stunned at their teammates' performance!

The rules of Buzzed Words are simple: Blake will perform a song and every time he sings one of two specific words, his partner, Zach, pours a shot. Then Gwen's team does the same, with Ms. Stefani in charge of belting out the vocals and teammate Susan controlling the liquor. The team that poured the highest percentage of Buzzed Words shots wins. Armed with "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" and "The Sweet Escape," respectively, Blake and Gwen went to work while their teammates stood by, equally armed with bottles of liquor.

To be honest, we're unsure if we should be laughing or crying at the performance of Team Blake. Zach was seemingly unable to identify when Blake sang the word "the" – also known as one of the most common words in the English language! (Although we must admire Zach's smiley-cluelessness as Blake helplessly sang the lyrics at him to perfection, complete with a half-dozen instances of "the" shouted in Zach's direction. Even Barmageddon host Nikki Garcia was stunned by Team Blake's performance – although her attention quickly shifted to dancing along to Gwen's flawless performance of her hit song "The Sweet Escape."

We won't spoil who won the entire competition, but it's safe to say that Team Blake's performance in Buzzed Words gave Team Gwen a healthy advantage in the overall standings.

The rousing rendition of Buzzed Words was just a taste of the classic bar games (with a twist) that went down during the November 20 episode of Barmageddon. If you ask us, it doesn't get any better than famous friends competing – and drinking – against each other in a battle for supremacy (and bragging rights).

As it turns out, Gwen Stefani is quite the competitive bar games participant when she's not strapped to a swiveling chair and forced to judge singers sight unseen on The Voice! We're unsure if Blake Shelton knew what he was getting into when he decided to go up against his wife in one of the most memorable episodes in the series' history.

We don't know how Blake feels, but we'd welcome Gwen back on Barmageddon anytime she likes!
