Blake Shelton opens up about being a stepfather

"I've had stepparents," the singer reflected during a conversation on TODAY. "I think, in some ways, it's more difficult. I try to be careful about when to step in and be smart about when to step back, but no matter what, always be there if I'm needed," he added.

The Barmageddon host has opened up previously about taking his responsibility as a part of the family seriously. He told People that the most important thing in his life was "our kids," and continued, "This isn't about me anymore and never will be again...Even though I'm a stepparent, I take that job very seriously. The kids see me as a very important person in their life...[When they ask,] 'Why isn't Blake here?' I take that stuff to heart. I've made plenty of money, but you can't buy time back. I don't want any regrets."

Stefani shares her boys with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale; though Shelton was married twice previously, he has no kids of his own.

On the topic of his marriage, he told TODAY, "I mean, the best part is lying down with her at night and then waking up and she’s there in the morning...I just didn’t know that that was out there, that that was possible."

The ultimate NBC power couple are so iconic that they even inspired a Halloween costume on TODAY: Laura Jarrett and Peter Alexander dressed as Stefani and Shelton, respectively, perfectly recreating the musicians' outfits from their "Happy Anywhere" music video shot on their farm.

Shelton even called into the show to tell them what a good job they did, saying, "Hey there, Peter and Laura. That's pretty damn good, I gotta admit it. I mean, you're no Hoda [Kotb] playing Blake Shelton [in 2017], but still pretty dang good. You guys did great. Sounded great, looked great. Happy Halloween."
