Country star Blake Shelton and No Doubt rocker Gwen Stefani may not have been the most obvious choice for each other, but now they're one of music's top power couples.

One of the values Blake Shelton holds near and dear to his heart is community. Just consider the country star's latest project, the upcoming USA Network series "Barmageddon," which is set at Shelton's Nashville venue Ole Red and will see various celebrity friends competing in the best bar games around.

Of course, the most essential part of Shelton's community? His wife, Gwen Stefani, one of the most famous women in music thanks to her days fronting No Doubt and her own hit pop solo career. Let's take a look back at one of the most unlikely love stories in music.

Stefani and Shelton first met on the set of "The Voice" in 2014, where they were both coaches to the contestants on the singing competition series. The coaches of "The Voice" tend to form close bonds (it's also where Shelton bonded with Carson Daly, who hosts the show and will be part of "Barmaggedon"), and Stefani and Shelton are no exception.

However, sparks weren't flying at first. They were married to other people at the time (Shelton to Miranda Lambert and Stefani to Gavin Rossdale), but when both went through breakups in 2015, the friends started leaning on each other for support, according to PEOPLE. Soon, a romance blossomed.

The two sparked relationship rumors around Halloween in 2015, when they were spotted getting cozy while attending various holiday parties, E! News reported at the time.

"They are definitely flirty on the set and you can see they have fun together," a source told the outlet at the time. "There is something going on between them and they have spent time together off set. They don't want to label anything or define it, they just really like each other and happen to be going through similar things in their lives. Gwen has spent time at Blake's house in the Hollywood Hills recently. They want it to stay under the radar and not make it a big public thing because who knows what will happen."

Shortly after the news of their flirty Halloween weekend broke, the pair confirmed they were a couple. They made their official red carpet debut at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in February 2016.

"They acted like giddy teenagers at a high school dance," a witness told PEOPLE at the time. "They were holding hands the whole night and didn't leave each other's sides. I don't think either of them stopped smiling the entire time they were there."

It was a special moment Stefani still thinks about, she revealed during an Oct. 22 appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show."

“That melts me when I see [photos of it] because that was such a moment for me,” she said. “A good one.”

Eventually, the couple started making music together, performing Stefani's Christmas album single "You Make It Feel Like Christmas" on a December 2017 episode of "The Voice." They made an official duet debut with the song "Nobody But You" from Shelton's 2019 album "Fully Loaded: God's Country." More music inspired by their romance came in 2020 with the duet "Happy Anywhere."

While the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic were rough as people experienced quarantine at home, Stefani told Entertainment Tonight living with Shelton at his Oklahoma ranch during this time was ultimately a positive experience for the family.

"We got to be in Oklahoma as a family. We got to do things we never get to do, like try to make sourdough bread, like everybody else in America, and just do so many fun things — garden, tear down trees, plant tons of different things," she said.

Clearly, the two were falling more deeply in love than ever because in October of that year, the two announced their engagement on Instagram.

Stefani posted a photo of her stunning engagement ring with a caption that read, "Yes please!" while Shelton posted the same photo along with the caption: "Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020... And the rest of my life. I love you. I heard a YES!"

The pair married on July 3, 2021 in gorgeous ceremony at Shelton's ranch in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Shelton was rumored to have previously built a chapel on the grounds with the intention of marrying Stefani there, reported Page Six. The intimate ceremony was officiated by none other than Carson Daly himself.

These days, Shelton and Stefani are as in love as ever. For Stefani's birthday earlier this month, Shelton posted a loving TikTok featuring photos and videos of the two set to "Nobody But You," writing, "I love you so freaking much!" Earlier this year, Stefani did her own loving tribute to Shelton for his birthday when she surprised him on stage with cake and a sing-a-long during one of his performances.
