Suits actor Rick Hoffman, who played the notoriously fussy Louis Litt on the USA Network series, just revealed the story behind an unflattering photo taken of him at the royal wedding of his co-star, Meghan Markle. Cameras snapped the actor giving a very unamused face and the reason for it is a comedy of errors befitting of his character on the show.

Hoffman, 53, appeared on the latest episode of Chicks in the Office for an interview about his time on Suits as well as the whirlwind story of seeing his co-star, who played Rachel Zane on the show, be thrust into the international spotlight when she married Prince Harry at a lavish ceremony in 2018. Co-stars like Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht were invited to the ceremony without incident — but Hoffman now has to live down what he describes as an “awful moment” and an “awful face” that went viral.

Despite how it looks, Hoffman’s face has nothing to do with the ceremony and everything to do with a bad smell he got a whiff of at the Church.

“If you type in my name on Google, you see my face, making that awful face,” he explained in an excerpt from the interview posted to his Instagram

“As time goes on, I'm starting to smell something really terrible and foul, and I'm very sensitive when it comes to that so I start to try to do this," Hoffman continued. "Because I have a coconut vanilla moisturizer, and I like to try to cut it. How can I help get away from this goofy face?"

The actor explained that he became concerned people would think he was the source of the bad smell so he went over to his friends, including fellow Suits actress Sarah Rafferty, to see if they could smell it too. However, they couldn’t. It’s possible she assumed Hoffman was up to some shenanigans given that, early in the day, he said he was trying to mess with her at the highly visible and serious event by “doing something ridiculous” to get a reaction out of her.

Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) appears in Season 8 Episode 8 in Suits

"So I'm like, 'Do you guys smell that?' And they're like, 'No.' So now I'm like literally by myself and I'm just going, ‘Mother fu…'" he said.

Sadly, he said that moment of frustration with the smell was the one that was captured by cameras and forever immortalized on the Internet.

"Guess who knew that the most in the cast, that I had an issue with other people's hygiene?" he added. "Meghan! Always knew and would always laugh about how I was so sensitive."

So, while those who have seen the picture may not have known it was a matter of scent until now, it seems the then-bride was up to speed on the whole thing.

Hoffman recently reunited with Rafferty and Gina Torres from Suits for a Super Bowl ad where they discussed the possibility of joining the upcoming NBC spinoff, Suits: L.A. Like everyone who has spoken about the spinoff so far, it seems he would be down to reprise his role as Loius Litt if he was given the call. However, currently the only official casting for Suits: L.A. has been Stephen Amell in the lead role of Ted Black.
