When you’re a successful WWE Superstar, you often find a bullseye on your back as countless athletes want to be next in line for a shot to knock you off your game. When you’re built like Brock Lesnar, however, there’s enough room on your back for multiple bullseyes.

Lesnar’s WrestleMania dance card has been filled in recent weeks by the giant Omos, who shocked the WWE Universe by challenging the Beast Incarnate to a one-on-one bout at April’s event. In turn, Lesnar shocked the world by accepting the challenge marking the multi-time WWE Champion’s biggest WrestleMania test yet and serving as the most important match of Omos’ still-burgeoning WWE career.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated conducted earlier this week, UFC legend Daniel Cormier announced he will be covering WrestleMania as a journalist on behalf of ESPN. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion should be a familiar face to the WWE Universe, as he famously stepped in to referee the Fight Pit match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at Extreme Rules 2022.

While he quietly stepped out of the WWE limelight after his guest refereeing duties concluded, Cormier has made his love for professional wrestling known, and many fans have figured it was just a matter of time before he became involved once again. As it turns out, the Road to WrestleMania is the perfect time for somebody like Cormier to jump back into things! During his announcement, Cormier was quick to clarify that he was attending WrestleMania strictly to cover the event for ESPN.

“I’m going to WrestleMania,” he said. “The first week of April for ESPN, I’ll be leading the coverage for WrestleMania — I’m so excited about it. I’m getting more opportunities for ESPN, and I’m so thankful for that. So I’ll be at WrestleMania, just in a different capacity, and we’ll see what the future holds down the line.”

As the premiere sports media company in the world, ESPN is clearly taking its WrestleMania coverage seriously this year. Adding a legend like Daniel Cormier to their team will undoubtedly ensure that the event will be covered similarly to sporting events like the Super Bowl and the World Series — inarguably a great thing for the WWE Universe!

However, the last part of Cormier’s statement raised some eyebrows, and it opened up a discussion about what kind of extracurricular activities Cormier could find himself partaking in while in Los Angeles for the biggest event on the WWE calendar. Specifically, he was asked what would happen if he crosses paths with none other than Brock Lesnar.

“If Brock steps in my way? I’ll smack him upside his head,” he said coldly.

Yikes. We don’t think Brock Lesnar will take too kindly to that comment. (We don’t know if you’ve heard, but Lesnar has a little bit of a temper.)

As of press time, however, Lesnar hasn’t responded publicly to Cormier’s warning shot, although we wouldn’t be surprised if the two former UFC Champions exchanged some good-natured texts over the past 24 hours.

It’s interesting, though. The wrestling world was stunned when Lesnar accepted Omos’ challenge for a WrestleMania match, and now the wheels have started turning in our heads — maybe this is all leading somewhere. Maybe the Lesnar/Omos match is just a means to an end. Maybe it’s all leading to Lesnar and Cormier doing battle inside a WWE ring (or inside the octagon) for the first time ever.

While it’s too soon to start fantasy booking a Brock Lesnar/Daniel Cormier fight in the near future, both men have extensive experience competing in the UFC. To say it’s a dream match is an understatement, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Let’s save the speculation for when Cormier smacks Lesnar upside the head at WrestleMania!
