Behind the scenes of Resident Alien's extra-terrestrial poker game
So far, this fourth season has had Resident Alien's, uh, resident alien lose his alien-ness. So, what else is there for a normal human man of a certain age to do but play poker? With his son and his son's friends. Harry tried his hand at poker, gambling against Bridget and some other aliens at his lakeside cabin in last week's episode, "The Human Condition." Although, as Tudyk explained in a behind-the-scenes video, it didn't go great.
"We get to see more aliens, which... I just love that element," Tudyk said. "Harry tries to play poker with them, but it doesn't go very well. It's like your dad coming in to play poker with your buddies; that's not gonna go well. You wanna have some guy time, but they wanna have alien time, and I'm a guy now. I'm a human."
Executive producer Robert Duncan McNeill, who also directed the episode, said the poker game offered an opportunity for the show to go nuts with some new alien designs, including an angler fish-looking visitor.

"At one point, early on, we were like, 'Oh, we'll just have some simple aliens. We'll have a couple pointy ears.' It started very modest," McNeill recalled. "And then we were like, 'Wait a minute. If we're gonna have Bridget playing poker with a bunch of aliens, it's an opportunity to really go big.' Our special effects makeup team did a phenomenal job."
Season 4 of Resident Alien drops new episodes on Fridays on USA Network and SYFY. All episodes will be available to stream exclusively on Peacock one week after they air.
