This story contains spoilers for Resident Alien Season 4, Episode 7, “Daddy Issues."

Ever since Resident Alien began, Kate and Ben Hawthorne (Meredith Garretson and Levi Fiehler) have feared for the sanity of their young son, Max (Judah Prehn).

How to Watch

Watch Resident Alien on USA Network and Peacock.

After all, the boy seemed utterly convinced for quite awhile that the town physician, Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle (Alan Tudyk), was an extra-terrestrial hiding in plain sight in their cozy Colorado town. Max was right, of course. He's gifted — or cursed, depending on how you look at the situation — with a special genetic mutation that allowed him to see right through Harry's fleshy disguise.

It was the very same talent shared by Peter Bach (Terry O'Quinn), whose alleged death inspired Max to name himself the new "Alien Tracker."

Mr. and Mrs. Mayor finally see the truth for themselves at the end of Season 4, Episode 7 ("Daddy Issues") when they show up at Harry's cabin and witness the alien in his true form giving their son a hug. Even after getting her baby back from child-abducting aliens with a base on the moon, this revelation is just too much for Kate, who exclaims, and understandably so, "What the f---?"

Meredith Garretson on Kate learning Harry's big secret in Resident Alien Season 4

"[It's] such a complete paradigm shift for Kate. It’s such an amazing gift and development for me in my relationship with Max," Garretson told USA Insider over Zoom. "Having this whole realization that my son had this entire world going on that I didn’t know about and wasn’t really paying attention to."

With Max's parents brought in on the earth-shattering secret, the once-small and exclusive club of Patience residents aware of Harry's identity has grown ever larger. As of Season 4, Episode 7, the local group now includes Max, Kate, Ben, Asta (Sara Tomko), D'arcy (Alice Wetterlund), Sahar (Gracelyn Awad Rinke), Dan (Gary Farmer), and Kayla (Sarah Podemski).

"It’s a complete family dynamic shift for us where I have to see my son in a new way, which factors really heavily into the [rest of the] season," Garretson concluded. "There’s so much energy around feeling like I’ve been shut out of what’s been happening in town, in the world. The fact that D’arcy and Asta knew about what was going on and kept it from me (and also kept my baby from me) causes a lot of internal conflict and [reframes] the way I see myself and my friends."

Season 4 of Resident Alien drops new episodes on Fridays on USA Network and SYFY. All episodes are available to stream exclusively on Peacock one week after they air.
