Last week saw a new side of Harry

Heather (Edi Patterson) and Harry Vanderspeigle (Alan Tudyk) smile together on Resident Alien Episode 404.

Last week's episode, "Truth Hurts," was a heartbreaker — or whatever organ makes an extra-terrestrial pump blood.

Because Harry no longer has his alien powers, it meant the end of his relationship with Heather (Edi Patterson), as he couldn't expect her to stay on Earth with him forever to live life as a normal human. In USA Insider's interview with Resident Alien showrunner Chris Sheridan unpacking the episode, Sheridan said the break-up gave Harry a chance to showcase how he's really becoming human — and that Tudyk nailed the challenge of showing this gradual transformation.

"There's a loss in [Harry]," Sheridan said. "And [Tudyk] becomes 2 percent more human in how he interacts with people, which is a very subtle acting here, too."

"But most of it is watching what it means to maybe feel more empathetic now, feel the emotions more now than ever before," he continued.

"I think that this kind of comedy with drama, simultaneously, is my favorite thing to do," Tudyk said. "The scene with Heather, it's a hard goodbye. Edi Patterson plays Heather, and she makes me laugh and breaks my heart at the same time."

Season 4 of Resident Alien drops new episodes on Fridays on USA Network and SYFY. All episodes will be available to stream on Peacock one week after they air.
