Like the rest of the country, Blake Shelton is getting in on the hilarious “Corn Kid” meme by dusting off his 2021 hit song that's appropriately titled “Corn.”
For those unfamiliar, a viral video has been making the rounds since early August that shows a young boy sharing his unabashed love for America’s favorite crop — corn. Shelton’s “Barmageddon” co-star, Carson Daly, broke down the video during “TODAY,” explaining that it was originally posted by the account Recess Therapy, which specializes in interviewing children and sharing the funny things they say. The clip shows a young boy munching away on his favorite food and enthusiastically telling the interviewer all about it.
Since it dropped, the video has gone unexpectedly viral, garnering the young boy the nicknames “The CEO of Corn” and “Corn Kid.” It even prompted the creation of a remix by The Gregory Brothers, a band that specializes in comical music parodies. Their member Michael's TikTok remix of the video has a staggering 31 million views on TikTok and continues to climb, according to "TODAY."
Not to be outdone, Shelton shared his own version of the video on social media that splices Corn Kid with his 2021 song “Corn” off the album “Body Language.”
Shelton himself is no stranger to planting food crops. He recently shared videos of himself using a tractor to get his land ready for plotting season. It’s unclear if Shelton is planting corn, but if he is, we know one person who would be ecstatic to see it. Elsewhere in the viral Corn Kid video, the boy further explains how much he loves corn and how excited he’s been to get his hands on it ever since he learned it was real. He also adorably drops the hot tip to try it with butter.
“When I tried it with butter, everything changed!” he says.
The interviewer tries to pivot the young boy, whose name is Tariq, to talking about his favorite games, but he quickly gets back to the matter at hand: the corn.
“I mean, look at this thing,“ he says. “I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing.”
He concludes the video with his most heart-melting line yet when he wishes for the viewer to have a “corn-tastic day!”
“What?” he says when the interviewer and his guardian start to laugh. “It’s just a pun about corn!"
