WWE Superstars Predict Who Will Win The 2022 FIFA World Cup

It’s one of the biggest sporting events of the year! Where do your favorite Superstars’ allegiances lie?

On Sunday, the 2022 FIFA World Cup officially kicked off with the opening ceremonies and the first game, signifying the beginning of arguably the most exciting sporting event in the entire world. Whether you’re a big fan of the game of soccer or just follow the sport casually when the World Cup rolls around, nobody can deny the big-match atmosphere that the World Cup brings — it’s like WrestleMania every game! From the pageantry to the amazing fans that pack the stadiums, the World Cup has a lot in common with WWE, and it’s no surprise that many Superstars already have their predictions lined up.

How to Watch

Watch Monday Night RAW every Monday evening at 8/7c on USA Network. Stream more exciting WWE series on Peacock.

Over the weekend, WWE cameras caught up with many of your favorite Superstars and asked them for their picks to win the whole thing. And although there weren’t many surprise picks to be had, the genuine enthusiasm everybody had for their respective national team is guaranteed to put you in a great mood to start off your week

Let’s break down each Superstar’s picks.

Bobby Lashley

“Whether they’re favored or not, I have to cheer for the hometown boys — go USA!” Lashley told the WWE Universe. And let’s be honest: The United States is definitely not favored to win the World Cup, as their odds to win sit around the 200-to-1 range. But hey, crazier things have happened, and with supporters like Bobby Lashley, the U.S. can defy the odds and make a World Cup run to remember.

Bianca Belair

Speaking of supporters who can inspire Team USA, the reigning Raw Women’s Champion is backing the United States in its quest for World Cup glory! With nearly all of her attention currently being occupied by competing in the historic WarGames match coming up at Survivor Series, we’re hoping that watching the U.S. compete can give her a chance to relax and take her mind off her own legendary title reign.

The Brawling Brutes – Ridge Holland and Butch

Ridge Holland didn’t mince words as he chastised the interviewer by saying the question is stupid — because of course, they’re rooting for England. In fact, he went one step further by proclaiming that football “is coming home.” As one of the odds-on favorites in the World Cup, England has a great chance of winning the whole thing.

Of course, the WWE Universe has to assume Butch is also on the same page as Holland, although it seemed Butch was more interested in trying to start a fight with the soccer ball than make his pick for the World Cup!

Robert Roode

It was great seeing Roode in front of a camera again in one form or another; after all, he hasn’t been seen on WWE television since he competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal ahead of WrestleMania. (And he finished in the final four too — he’s someone who we can’t wait to see back competing inside the ring!)

As one of the most prominent Canadian WWE Superstars, Roode clearly is rooting for his home country with all the national pride he can muster. We don’t want to rain on Roode’s parade, but Canada is currently facing extremely long odds to win the whole thing: The team is currently sitting at 500-to-1 to win the World Cup, which means they’ve got a tough road ahead of themselves for the next month.

Ricochet

As one of the most physically gifted Superstars to ever compete in WWE, Ricochet is a man of few words. He usually lets his actions do the talking. His prediction, true to form, was simple: “USA. Always.”

(And with Survivor Series coming up, we can’t help but think about the jaw-dropping double moonsault he performed off the top of the WarGames cage a few years back in NXT. It still blows our minds.)

Ludwig Kaiser

Well, it looks like one of the members of Imperium is low-key one of the biggest soccer — excuse us, football — fans in all of WWE! With a smile on his face, he proudly told the camera he’ll be rooting for his home country of Germany to dominate the World Cup. It’s the obvious pick for Kaiser, but it’s quite clear that he knows a thing or two about the sport — and he loves talking about it.

“We have a great team with a lot of potential, and we have a great coach that I totally trust,” Kaiser said confidently. Germany has won the World Cup an astonishing four times already, and it sounds like number five is well within their reach. On a related note, we’re wondering how much of Kaiser’s comments were cut out of the final video; we wouldn’t be surprised to hear he talked about Team Germany for a good 20 minutes!

Rey Mysterio

We’ll give everybody one guess as to who Rey Mysterio predicted will win the World Cup. If you said Mexico, you’re right — but it isn't exactly a shocker that Rey picked them to win it all. The master of the 619 was born in Tijuana, Mexico, just a few miles south of San Diego, California, so rooting for the Mexican national team on the world stage is par for the course.

Mexico has never reached past the quarter-finals in the World Cup, so we’ll see if the seal of approval from Mysterio can give the team the motivation it needs to make history — and to make one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time proud.

Asuka

In a shocking moment, Asuka actually predicted that Argentina would win the 2022 World Cup.

No, we’re kidding. She’s backing Japan — but as one of the underdogs to win the whole tournament, Japan is going to need a lot of help. Luckily, being supported by larger-than-life Superstars like Asuka is a step in the right direction! We loved the passion she showed when making her prediction, by the way. It's that same passion that will make her a force to be reckoned with at WarGames this weekend.

Raquel Rodriguez

It sounds like Rey Mysterio will have a friend to watch the matches with for the next month because Raquel is also choosing Mexico as her pick to win the World Cup! Raquel’s excitement was so palatable that we’re pretty sure it was Mysterio himself who joined in with her rabid “Mexico! Mexico!” chants.

Come to think of it, that’s not a bad idea. Can we humbly request for WWE cameras to follow them as they root on the Mexican national team throughout the entire tournament? The passion would be off the charts!

While the World Cup is sure to bring excitement and drama for the next month, nothing is going to top Survivor Series: WarGames this weekend as far as sheer entertainment goes. Make sure you tune in to Peacock on Saturday, Nov. 26 to witness history, as not one, but two WarGames matches will take place!
