Court will soon be in session, as USA Network has released the first trailer for its upcoming legal drama The Rainmaker, based on John Grisham's bestselling novel of the same name. Previously adapted into a Matt Damon-led movie in the '90s, the new series changes up some details from the source material, and the new trailer teases an upbeat-but-dramatic, high-stakes show with shades of previous hit USA Network series.

How to Watch

The Rainmaker is coming soon to USA Network.

The Rainmaker — which will premiere on August 15, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on USA Network, with episodes streaming on Peacock one week after they first air — stars Milo Callaghan as Rudy Baylor, a young law school grad. As the new trailer reveals, he gets fired on his first day working for the powerhouse lawyer Leo Drummond (Mad Men's John Slattery), forcing him to get a job with Brusier (Once Upon a Time's Lana Parrilla), a tough, talented, but not exactly reputable lawyer. (Her offices are located in what used to be a taco shop.) Rudy and Bruiser are joined by disheveled paralegal Deck (P.J. Byrne).

When Rudy begins to uncover possible conspiracies surrounding the death of their client's son, involving a hospital whose actions go beyond negligence to outright murder, he must go up against Leo, his one-time boss. Further complicating things? His law school girlfriend, Sarah (Madison Iseman), works for Leo.

Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs, and Robyn Cara also star.

The trailer suggests there will be plenty of action inside and outside of the courtroom, featuring explosive outbursts in high-stakes board rooms and a car driving through a wall right toward our intrepid hero.

"If you want to screw the people who screwed our client, what are you willing to do to be a rainmaker?" asks Brusier in the trailer, referencing the titular idiom, referring to a lawyer who wins a major case that brings in a bunch of money.

"The Rainmaker began as John Grisham’s fastest-selling novel, then became a feature film, and now, it’s a TV series," showrunner and executive producer Michael Seitzman said via press release. "What is it about this story that keeps drawing people in? Maybe it’s the David-and-Goliath legal thriller, the dangerous romance or the coming-of-age story. For me, above all, it’s the characters. They jumped off the page in John’s book and were a joy to expand upon in our show. Not to mention, Milo Callaghan, who plays Rudy Baylor, is your next crush."
