'The True Heroes': Austin Dillon Unveils New Car Designed To Honor Military Veterans
"Life In The Fast Lane" star Austin Dillon is honoring military veterans on July 4th.
Austin Dillon will honor nearly 1,900 U.S. military veterans when he races on the July 4th holiday at the NASCAR Cup Series thanks to a new No. 3 Chevrolet that was unveiled by his team, Richard Childress Racing, earlier this week.
The organization unveiled the 2022 Dow Salutes Veterans Chevrolet, which features a new color scheme for the No. 3 racecar as well as the names of U.S. Military Veterans and active-duty military members, according to the team’s website. The design is meant to highlight RCR partner Dow and its Military Degree Equivalency program as well as the work of Team Rubicon.
In addition to honoring veterans, Dow gets special placement on the car with a special logo design on the hood to celebrate the organization’s 125th anniversary. Who better to drive the massive banner of military respect than RCR’s biggest champion and star of the upcoming USA Network reality series “Life In The Fast Lane,” Austin Dillon?
“It's cool to hear them talk about their memories,” Dillon said at the unveiling where he spoke with several veterans (via WFMY). “You can just feel what they were going through just a little bit, but it's unrelatable because you don't know what those feelings were like ... It's powerful, it's very special, those are the true heroes. A lot of fans look up to what we drivers do, but those are the true heroes."
RCR notes that 2022 marks the eighth consecutive year that Dow has partnered with the team to honor military veterans on Independence Day. The program reportedly began with a little more than 350 veterans in 2015 and now has close to 2,000.
“I’m proud to have played a small role in Dow’s history and heritage so it means a lot to be able to help celebrate their 125th Anniversary and honor employee veterans at the same time,” Dillon said of the unveiling. “Dow has been with me through some of the greatest moments of my Cup Series career, and their team of scientists help make our Chevys faster, lighter, and more precise. It’s special to be able to reflect on the powerful effect the Dow Salutes Veterans program has had over the years, and to honor our true heroes — veterans and active-duty military — for their service and dedication.”
The car, appropriately clad in red, white, and blue, will be driven by Dillon in the Kwik Trip 250 presented by Jockey Made in America at Road America, which will air live on USA Network on Sunday, July 3 at 3 p.m. ET.
