Attention all Monk fans: It's time to celebrate!

We're officially only one month away from the Peacock premiere of Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie – and to mark the special occasion, the team behind the film has released the official trailer. Let's dive in together, shall we?

Monk spent the series trying to solve a case that had to do with his family. Now he'll do the same in Mr. Monk's Last Case, but some fans may not be familiar with the next most important woman in Adrian's life, his stepdaughter, Molly.

Who is Molly Evans to Monk?

While the series finale of Monk wrapped up the near-decade-long mystery of who was ultimately responsible for the murder of Trudy, Monk's wife, it also introduced Monk's stepdaughter. Viewers were stunned when Monk came face-to-face with Molly Evans, the daughter that he never knew existed until he pieced the clues together far too late:

In the end, Molly made Monk realized his battles with obsessive-compulsive disorder were what made him so good at detective work, despite his belief to the contrary.

"It's not a curse, it's a gift – can't you see that?" she memorably asked Monk in the show's final moments.

Molly Evans' backstory is complicated yet devastatingly simple: She is the daughter of Trudy and Ethan Rickover, the man ultimately responsible for Trudy's death. The two had an affair while Trudy was still in college and Rickover was a law professor. Years later, that affair threatened to hurt his career. In true villainous fashion, Rickover covered up Molly's existence by putting her up for adoption; Trudy was never aware that Molly survived her birth. Of course, Monk couldn't have cared less who Molly's father was – he saw so much of his Trudy in her that the undying love for his wife never clouded his judgment. He tracks down Molly and vows to be part of her life.

In Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie, Adrian Monk seems to have made good on that promise. As a result, he is pulled out of retirement to investigate the suspicious death of Molly's fiancé – and if you think Monk hasn't been affected by the aftermath of the global pandemic, you don't know the man at all! Fortunately for him, the upcoming film will feature many of the original cast from the series' original eight-season run – it looks like everyone will be back for the (presumably) final chapter in the unforgettable story of Adrian Monk.

Well... almost everyone.

Who Plays Monk's Stepdaughter in Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie?

Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk

Eagle-eyed viewers surely caught actor Caitlin McGee conversing with Monk during a few clips from the trailer – and as it turns out, she's a new addition to the cast, but she'll be playing an integral role as Monk's adult stepdaughter.

That's right, McGee will be taking over the role from Alona Tal, who memorably portrayed Molly in the 2009 series finale. Caitlin McGee is a talented actress who can effortlessly shift from drama to comedy in the blink of an eye – logically making her the perfect addition to the cast of Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie. She's been a mainstay on many popular TV series and films over the last decade, and we can't wait to see the energy and talent she'll bring to the cast! If her chemistry with Tony Shalhoub in the trailer is any indication, fans are in for a treat come December 8 when the movie premieres exclusively on Peacock.

Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie streams on December 8 only on Peacock. Until then, catch up on the complete series of Monk, also exclusively on Peacock.
