“Race For The Championship” promises to give fans an inside look at the lives of some of NASCAR’s top competitors both on and off the track. For Kyle Larson, that means seeing his life at home with his wife and two kids.
Katelyn Sweet and Kyle Larson married in September 2018 after announcing their engagement the previous December. However, the duo committed to each other long before that. When they got hitched, they were already parents to kids Owen and Audrey. They welcomed Owen to the world in 2014 and Audrey in 2018 prior to their wedding.
While she considers herself a mom and a racing wife first, there’s far more to Katelyn than that. She is a former equestrian and marathon runner, and when she met Kyle, she was no stranger to the professional stock car track. Her brother, Brad Sweet, is a professional driver as well. While they share an affinity for driving, Katelyn and Kyle initially bonded over their other great love: partying.
Speaking on the “Rippin’ It” podcast in 2021, Kyle revealed the first time he met Katelyn, he was a bit of a party animal. His schedule, he said, consisted of drinking all night, waking up hungover, racing, winning, and drinking to celebrate again.
One night, he met a girl he liked at a post-race celebration and admitted to drinking too much to try to impress her.
“We’re all partying that night and I think I was probably trying to show off for her and I end up getting wasted,” Kyle told the podcast. “She and a couple of my other friends, obviously I was passed out, like on the ground, in bad shape, and they colored all over me.”
That’s right: The first time he met his now-wife, the night ended with her and his friends outlining his hairline with Sharpie. The next day, he met with his fellow drivers on the team and realized he’d been the victim of a prank.
In fact, Katelyn is well-known for her fun-loving and partying ways. When her husband wins a race, she’s known to grab a beer and shotgun it like a pro to celebrate. Specifically, she pulled an entire Busch Light after he won the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2021. The moment went viral after it was captured by NBC Sports.
You can see more of Kyle and Katelyn as they let cameras into their lives during his attempt to secure another Cup Series victory in the 2022 season on “Race For The Championship.”
