This was a big weekend for both Saturday Night Live and wrestling fans. On Saturday evening, NBC’s long-running comedy show ended its 42nd (!) season with wrestler-turned-Hollywood star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hosting for a fifth time. Then on Sunday, WWE SmackDown had its momentous Backlash event, where wrestling superstars like Randy Orton, Jinder Mahal, and Kevin Owens fought for Championship titles.
Given all the wrestling mania, the SNL crew paid tribute to WWE with a parody sketch. In it, Johnson –- playing superstar “Koko WatchOut” -– and Bobby Moynihan -– as “Trashyard Mutt” –- film a promo for an upcoming match. But instead of traditional taunts, Koko burns his opponent with deeply personal comments.
“He’s been trying to get his wife pregnant for two years, and he cannot get it done!” Koko says of a humiliated Trashyard. “It’s putting a lot of stress on their marriage!”
Raw airs Mondays at 8/7c, while SmackDown takes place Tuesdays at 9/8c –- only on USA.
