As the sun began to set on Hollywood and Vine, celebrities, influencers, and hip hop aficionados were ushered into the historic Avalon nightclub for the premiere of USA Network’s new limited series, Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac And The Notorious B.I.G.
Here are six things that made it an unforgettable night!
1. A Toast to Remember
The evening kicked off with a rousing toast by co-executive producers, Anthony Hemingway and Kyle Long, and segued into a special screening of the first episode. Not one seat was left empty for the entire episode, and given the sheer size of the event, many of the party-goers watched the pilot standing (though with a cocktail or two in hand). Hemingway made sure to get some face-time at the event with celeb pals Doug E. Fresh and 50 Cent:
2. More Than a Screening
As the credits began to roll, the audience erupted into a thunderous applause and it became clear that this was more than a premiere; it was a celebration of the life and legacy of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace. Tupac's brother Mopreme Shakur was in attendance for the party, as well as other folks who lived through the events of the show in real time. Speaking of the "real people," the real Det. Greg Kading and LAPDOfficer Daryn Dupree (portrayed by Josh Duhamel and Bokeem Woodbine respectively) were also there!
3. Wavyy Onstage
Immediately following the screening, the curtains came up to a call-and-response chant, “When I say ‘UN’, you say ‘SOLVED!’” -- and the guests who were expecting a party of epic proportions were not disappointed. The first performance of the night was by rapper and first-time actor, Wavyy Jonez, who gave a heartfelt tribute to his onscreen character, The Notorious B.I.G. As Wavyy belted out tunes, fans descended upon the stage, sipping champagne and taking selfies with Woodbine, Marcc Rose, andDominic Santana. Wavyy posted this snap with the legendary Easy Mo Bee:
4. Busta Rhymes Busting Rhymes
The stage hosted multiple acts throughout the evening, including a performance by hip hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and a most memorable finale by rap icon Busta Rhymes. As the last performer, he held the gaze of every person in the room (and brought out the best dance moves from Jimmi Simpson!). Toward the end of the evening, Rhymes paused his set list to take a moment of silence for Biggie and Tupac.
5. ‘Unsolved’ Everywhere
In case there was any doubt what the cast, producers, and friends were there to celebrate… every party favor, from the champagne flutes to the popcorn bags, were branded with the Unsolved logo. After receiving a customizable printed crew neck of their choice, each guest proceeded to the luxury, high-tech social media photo booth, equipped with a glam cam that accentuated the ‘90s era look.
6. A-List All the Way
The premiere party was quintessentially Hollywood and the perfect event to kickoff one of the biggest TV events of 2018! The Unsolved ensemble, including Duhamel, Simpson, Woodbine, Jonez, and Rose, walked the red carpet. Here are pictures from the event:
