What does Doug’s nightmare mean?
It’s in the first moments of the episode that we start to see into the Treadstone training program by way of Doug’s nightmare that he experiences on the plane from Alaska. As we’re starting to learn, the Treadstone training program pitted the best against the best, sometimes to deadly results. While Doug can’t remember what happened to him that gave him the physical abilities he unleashes in the Alaska bar, there is a part of him that has been woken up, and that dark, forgotten past of his is trying to break loose.
Why does Bentley go rogue?
One key piece of information that we find out in this episode is that, not only is Bentley’s mind warped from his time in captivity, but also that period of captivity is much, much longer than he initially realized. When his friend and confidant, Ferguson, informs him that he’s been missing for nine months, we, and Bentley, start to realize how grave the implications are for him. Now Bentley has resurfaced at the same time that other CIA agents are turning up dead, and it is having the effect of a smoking gun in Bentley’s hand. Kohler, the West Berlin CIA Station Chief, is immediately suspicious of Bentley, and it doesn’t take long for Bentley to realize that there is really no way that he can convince Kohler he hasn’t been turned. In a moment of panic, Bentley takes the only strategy he can think of – fighting his way out of the CIA Headquarters and going rogue, where he hopes he can clear his name.
Who is Dr. Wells and what does he know?
In Dr. Wells, Edwards is following one of the only leads he has in his quest for the truth about Treadstone, as Wells’s name appears in the intake forms of a number of former Treadstone assets. When he finally gets face to face with Wells, however, he is surprised that Wells is already one step ahead. Though kicked to the curb by the CIA after the shuttering of Treadstone, Wells has been quietly keeping an eye on things from afar, and, when a video of a horrific shooting appears, Wells recognizes the traits of a Cicada immediately. Now, it’s up to Wells and Edwards to get to the bottom of this new lead and try to contain the problem before it spreads even wider.
What will be Tara’s next break in the case?
This episode gives a window into what will become something of a scavenger hunt for Tara Coleman. It’s important to remember that Tara has been out of the game as an investigative journalist for a few years now – but the story that has been the bane of her existence effectively falls into her lap. She therefore needs to try to catch her bearings while she gets thrown from one lead to the next. In this case, her only lead is to meet with Jang Mi and to get her to the Ecuadorian Embassy in Paris, where Kwon has assured her the next lead will be waiting. Don’t be concerned if you find this storyline to be moving along at a breakneck speed… so does Tara, and she’s just trying to get out ahead of it.
