The penultimate episode of The Sinner’s second season had a range of bombshells, but the episode belonged to Marin Calhoun. Catch up on her surprising arc—and devastating end—below.
Heather and Harry discover Marin is alive, and was living at the Grey Daughters convent.
Vera is one step ahead of them, though, having already sent Terry there to get Marin’s discarded things from the convent. After visiting with Sister Joanne, Heather does what’s right and updates the Amber Alert on Julian to include his kidnapper: Marin Calhoun.
Marin first tried to kidnap Julian on Mosswood.
Marin’s first stop after leaving the convent is Mosswood, but when Vera refuses to let her see Julian after all these years, she tries to kidnap him as—you guessed it—the hooded figure from his nightmares. She’s caught beforehand, but manages to persuade Bess to help her get him back.
Marin gains Julian’s trust by singing his lullaby.
While Julian leaves Garrett’s foster home under the impression he’s going back to Mosswood, he quickly learns that Marin is not telling him the whole truth, and he flees from the camper van and into the woods. Marin eventually gains his trust by telling him she’s his mother and singing his lullaby.
Heather puts her feelings for Marin aside, even as she begs for help.
As he is prone to do, Julian responds to the truth of his situation with Bess and Adam and violently lashes out, forcing Marin and him off the bus to Niagara Falls and into a motel. While waiting on a curbside, Marin calls Heather for a last-ditch effort for help.
Julian and Marin’s pitstop on the Five Nations Reservation has fatal consequences.
Heather and Harry follow a local squad car to the motel Julian and Marin are staying—and find Marin’s been shot dead. Did Julian kill her? We’ll have to tune in next week to find out!
