Straight out the gate, we’re thrown into another murder that’s as gruesome as it is baffling. Check out the top five moments from The Sinner Season 2 premiere below.
Julian kills his parents
After their car breaks down on the way to Niagara Falls, Julian and his parents are forced to stay overnight in the nearby Rockford Lodge Hotel. That’s where he poisons them with their tea the following morning.
Detective Heather Novack finds Julian at the motel
After being called to investigate the two bodies found in the motel (they’ve been cleaned and wrapped in a white sheet with stones put over their eyes), Heather explores the perimeter of the Rockford and finds Julian, frightened and having peed himself.
Heather calls Harry Ambrose to the case
Heather is the daughter of Detective Harry Ambrose’s old friend Jack. She uses that as leverage to get Harry (fresh off his success with Cora Tannetti) to come upstate to act as a second pair of eyes on the case. He agrees, but the thought of going back to his hometown wracks him with nightmares of a burning house and boiling water.
Harry gets a confession
Detective Harry Ambrose is called upstate to the case by local detective, Heather Novack. Meeting with Julian, who’s now in foster care, he gets a confession from Julian: He poisoned his parents with jimsonweed found outside the motel.
The adults that Julian killed weren’t his parents, after all. Meet Vera
While alone in foster care, Julian keeps to himself and clings to memories of a woman named Vera, who at first appears to be a therapist of some kind. He remembers drawing on her carpeted floor and reflecting on what she mysteriously calls “Shadow Julian.” The episode’s closing moments, however, reveal her to be…his mother? Heather and Harry piece it together just as she arrives to the police station.
