Good news for fans of USA Network's "whydunnit," The Sinner: A new story begins August 1!
Appropriately for the murder-mystery series, these new episodes are shrouded in secrecy – but luckily, we’ve pieced together all the information we have so far.
A Handful of Promos Provide the First Puzzle Pieces
The four teaser promos -- each 20 seconds in length -- feature the same “Rescue Me” song from last year’s trailers, as well as what seem like clues: a dead (?) woman with rocks on her eyes; a car with “GO HOME” keyed into its exterior; a child looking at cop cars through a rainy window; a messy hotel room with a running shower. Creepy stuff, for sure, but what does it add up to?
The 30 second trailer reveals a few more glimpses into the new narrative, but is ultimately just as mystifying (and chilling). Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) is back, investigating what looks to be a murder (or murders) taking place in the woods and a motel. A child also features prominently in the promo.
Detective Harry Ambrose Returns, with a Few New Faces
As seen in the trailer, Pullman reprises his role as Harry Ambrose – while the young boy is played by Elisha Henig of Mr. Robot fame.
Separately, we've learned Emmy- and Tony-nominated actress Carrie Coon (The Leftovers, Gone Girl) will play Vera, “a formidable, mysterious woman who struggles between upholding the ideals of the community she leads and fulfilling her own desires.” Coons’ husband, Tracy Letts –- a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, screenwriter, and Tony-winning actor -– has also joined the cast. Natalie Paul (The Deuce, Luke Cage) stars as a detective in training named Heather who hails from Ambrose’s hometown, while Hannah Gross (Mindhunter) is Heather’s formerly missing best friend, Marin.
Behind the scenes, Jessica Biel will return as an executive producer, alongside producing partner Michelle Purple. Antonio Campos, who directed three 2017 episodes, will helm at least two episodes this time around.
We’ve Got Photos
Six tantalizing photos provide a peek into what to expect onscreen, as well as some behind-the-scenes action. Check out Biel’s cool new shades!
