Henry Louis Gates Jr. is a professor, historian, author and filmmaker best known for his PBS genealogy series Finding Your Roots. Gates has authored or co-authored 25 books and created 23 documentary films, including The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross (2013) and Reconstruction: America after the Civil War (2019). His next documentary, The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song, premieres February 16, 2021, on PBS.
