Helen Mirren is an Oscar- and Emmy Award-winning actress whose career spans nearly 50 years. Mirren first began performing in theater as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company before making her mark on film with 1968's A Midsummer's Night Dream. Her star continued to rise with 1969's Age of Consent, 1973's O Lucky Man! and 1981's Excalibur. In 1991, Mirren took on the role of detective Jane Tennison in the TV series Prime Suspect, which aired on and off until 2003. The role earned her three Emmy Awards. In 2006, the actress won an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen. Mirren's more recent work includes the action franchise Red, 2014's The Hundred-Foot Journey and Woman in Gold. In March 2021, she was cast as the villain Hespera in the upcoming superhero film Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Mirren is set to portray Golda Meir, prime minister of Israel from 1969-1974, in the new biopic Golda.
