Common’s Father Helped Start His Rap Career
Common is an Oscar- and Grammy Award-winning rapper and actor. He has released 12 albums since 1992, including the chart-topping Finding Forever in 2007. As an actor, Common has starred in the films Smokin' Aces, American Gangster, Wanted, Now You See Me, Suicide Squad, The Hate U Give and Selma, for which he also penned the Oscar-winning song "Glory." In 2018, Common released his first album as a member of the newly formed group August Greene, which followed the trio's Emmy win for the song "Letter to the Free." Later that same year, he was nominated for an Oscar for the song "Stand Up for Something" from the film Marshall. He can be seen in the film Ava, out now.
