Need an easy mental tracker to help you nail your diet? Here is a simple trick -- eat across the rainbow!
When it comes to eating, one of the biggest revelations our contestants have had is discovering the surprising array of colors that grace the food spectrum. As we learned in this episode, the rich color palate of unprocessed foods is closely tied to good and balanced nutrition across the board.
When Erica drops by to check out progress in the kitchen while the group prepares some tasty taco bowls, the rainbow of food colors is on full display: avocado, tomato, carrots, celery, and even apples and strawberries — not to mention bell peppers of every hue. It’s an eye opener for our contestants, just as it can be for anyone who’s been stuck in a rut of scarfing down bland take-out or whipping up high-calorie comfort food.
Plus, when you prepare and share a meal with family or friends, it’s easier to remember the cues that can help you — and them — find success. Take an extra tip from Erica and be sure to sip some water the next time you (and your friends!) whip up a tasty rainbow-colored dinner. When it’s time to eat, the food will satisfy your hunger that much more quickly. And the fun you have as a group goes a long way toward turning dinner into its own nutritious and fun reward.
Teri brings it all home in this bonus scene, and the rest of the group agrees: “When food is visually appealing, it just tastes that much better.” It’s awesome to see the sense of community that sharing a meal brings to the table, and it’s even better to see our contestants tapping into that spirit of togetherness to support each other on their wellness journey.
