Last episode, we witnessed the end of Nicole and Karl’s relationship. In the dramatic season finale, we learn what fate awaits John and Kady, Evan and Kaci, and Javen and Shari.
John and Kady both choose to leave Temptation Island alone
After Kady admits that she can’t see herself having children with John, the two of them each express the desire to leave Temptation Island alone. John notes later that he hopes to “continue moving forward with Katheryn.”
Evan leaves Temptation Island with Morgan
En route to her bonfire with Evan, Kaci performs a silent prayer. “He’s going to know he hurt me,” she says. “And he’s going to know that he’s throwing away something really special. And I really think if I do that, there’s no way he’s going to be able to walk away from me.” Meanwhile Evan prepares for a “very difficult night.” After they reunite at the bonfire, Kaci lays into Evan: “It feels like you threw our whole life away for this random girl… You’re a piece-of-s--- scumbag. You really broke my heart. And I’ve literally been crying this entire time.”
Then it’s Evan’s turn to talk. “In the distance that I’ve had with you, I’ve found clarity,” he begins. “And no matter how much I love you, I’ve opened my heart up to someone else.” Kaci can only shake her head in disbelief. Still, she is steadfast in her desire to leave Temptation Island with Evan. “I’m committed to him,” she explains. “This is someone that is the love of my life, that I have a life with. I want to go home and fix what we can fix.” In response, Evan says, “Mark, I’m leaving with someone else.”
Kaci tells Evan he’s being impulsive, that she’s changed, and she implores him to give her another chance. “Everything that you promised me, that my heart and soul is safe with you, that you’ll never leave me, I’m yours forever,” she says.” How could you do this?” Evan remains steadfast that this could all have been avoided if she hadn’t pressured him to get married. “I don’t want you to think that Morgan is some temptress that’s stolen me away from you,” he says. “I’m a man exercising free will, and I stand by all the actions I’ve committed and everything that I’ve said.” “This is literally my worst nightmare,” Kaci says.
“How is this real?” she asks, choking back tears in the SUV a few moments later. “This has to be a joke […] When you’re committed to someone, you don’t give up on someone.” Meanwhile, back at the bonfire, Evan tells Mark that he regrets nothing before heading down the path to reunite with Morgan. She tells him she had a “billion doubts,” which he silences with yet another shower of sweet talk. “Morgan just makes me feel things that I wanted to feel with Kaci, but never had,” Evan explains. “And I know it’s so fast, but you don’t get to choose who you fall for. Morgan’s awakened something inside me.”
Javen proposes to Shari
Javen and Shari reunite happily at the bonfire and they can’t stop beaming at each other. Shari tells him about her “up and down” experience, and how she overcame her initial desire to go home and ultimately grow to be a stronger individual. Javen tells her about his parallel experience, and how he had to keep telling the single girls not to touch him.
Javen announces that he wants to leave Temptation Island with Shari: “I can’t even think about giving myself to anyone else on this Island or anyone period with you.” Shari responds that she, too, wants to leave Temptation Island as a couple. “I almost want to re-date each other, and just be better or stronger together,” she says. “I’ve kind of been pressuring you into being this person, and I want you to be who you want to be.”
They walk away from the bonfire down a grass path to another clearing. “Coming here, I had a question,” Javen tells Shari. “I wanted to see if you’re the woman I wanted to be with for the rest of my life, and I found that answer.” With that, he gets down on one knee and proposes. “Yes, of course!” she replies. She goes on to say, “I want to be a different person for you. I want to be light-hearted and open. I feel like you deserve that.” Mark shows up with a bottle of champagne. They celebrate their engagement with a toast.
Life updates, six months after Temptation Island
Six months after the end of Temptation Island, we check in with the couples to see how they’re holding up.
Shari and Javen are in the midst of planning their wedding. Shari tries on dresses, and they take engagement photos in San Francisco’s Presidio. They both agree that after Temptation Island, they never want to date anyone else again. “We got the answers that we needed and we feel confident continuing our relationship as a couple,” Shari says.
John decided to give Kady another shot after Temptation Island -- until she told him that Johnny bought her a flight to New York. “She’s delusional,” he says. “And I’m like, ‘you gotta get the f--- out.’” He’s been in contact with Katheryn, but they haven’t made any serious strides in their relationship. Kady says that after a fun trip to New York, her romantic relationship with Johnny fizzled. She reiterates that no matter how tumultuous the whole experience has been for her, she regrets nothing.
Karl is focusing on his R&B career and his personal training clients. He moved out of his place with Nicole and has no plans to move to L.A. to be with Brittney. Nicole also moved out and bought her first apartment. She is at peace with her decision to break up with Karl. “It truly felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders,” she says of her final bonfire. She and Tyler are in touch, but just as friends.
Kaci has dyed her hair brown and got a new dog named Nova to replace Evan. Her friends and parents are supportive, though she still harbors some bitterness towards Evan. “He stole 10 years of my life. And he doesn’t even feel bad about it, so I’m more upset about that,” she says. Meanwhile, Evan has moved to DC, where Morgan’s family has welcomed him with open arms. “I know where I want to be in 80 years,” he says. “I know exactly who I want to spend every single moment of my life with, and it’s Morgan.” He surprises Morgan with a proposal one night out at a restaurant. She says yes.
A Temptation Island fairytale ending for some. For others? Not so much!
