Last week, John Cena and Roman Reigns got on the microphone and aired a few grievances about each other in advance of their dream match at WWE No Mercy. It got deeply personal in a hurry. And they didn’t hold back at all in Round Two, with Reigns openly questioning whether Cena had lost a step after taking so long to beat the “rookie” Jason Jordan.

Somehow, someway, Braun Strowman isn’t finished with Brock Lesnar.

The Beast Incarnate managed to stave off The Gift of Destruction (and Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe) despite being put through two tables and buried under a third by Strowman at SummerSlam, but The Monster Among Men made it quite clear that the Universal Champion wasn’t out of the woods yet in Raw’s opening moments.

Paul Heyman promised The Beast would be unleashed on this week’s Raw, and The Advocate’s premonition indeed came true, though Samoa Joe proved ready for it.

What was initially set to be Universal Champion Brock Lesnar’s triumphant response to his No. 1 contender’s “message” on last week’s Raw quickly turned into an all-out brawl between champion and challenger. Joe crashed The Conqueror’s first appearance since the Raw after WrestleMania, proving he was as unafraid of Lesnar as he previously professed.

In the middle of a match between Reigns and Wyatt — sanctioned by Kurt Angle after Reigns interrupted The Reaper of Souls’ opening sermon, wherein he claimed he was the only man who could defeat Brock Lesnar — Samoa Joe crashed the ring and locked The Big Dog in the Coquina Clutch, much to Wyatt's delight.
