Ever since the pilot, Suits has been loaded with pop culture references, including the occasional superhero shout-out (for instance, Bruce Wayne comes up in the very first episode). Tonight, you can expect another one in “Live to Fight,” when Harvey mentions a particularly heroic costume.
The comparison to superheroes is one that Suits star Gabriel Macht sees fitting. Pearson Specter Litt is basically a team of “super”-lawyers who have been untouchable until now.
“There is that element that these guys are above all of us and have the perfect quip, the perfect response, the perfect retort,” Macht said in an exclusive interview with USANetwork.com. “That said, the stakes have gotten so high now that the state of New York is going after this kid for conspiracy to commit fraud. He may go to jail! And so that, in a sense, tilts the reality of the show.”
The shift from superlawyer to mere mortal is exciting to Macht. “It’s a little bit more grounded in a way,” the actor said. “I think that’s what we’ve been doing in these last six episodes, which is make it a little more nuanced… it’s a little more real and a little less gloss.”
With great power comes great responsibility, and -- in this current season -- great vulnerability. “Let’s break the armor down,” Macht teased. “Let’s see a little more grit. The audience is ready for that.”
Speaking of grit, Macht mused on which superhero best fits Harvey’s personality.
“In a way, he’s very similar to Batman,” Macht told us. (And come to think of it, Harvey does live in a Bruce Wayne-worthy apartment by himself in real-life Gotham.) “He can just get himself out of anything. We’ll see if he can do that this season.”
