Just when we thought the emotional highs couldn’t get any higher, the last episode of Suits ended on a moment that took our breath away. But there was so much more to the season than the kiss (but what a kiss!), so if you can’t quite recall how it all played out then we recommend you go back and rewatch episode 710, “Donna”, ASAP. Can’t carve out the time for a viewing? No sweat; check out our rundown of the big stuff to get you up to speed before the midseason premiere on March 28.
Donna Got a Promotion
After realizing last season that she needed more out of life (R.I.P. The Donna Digital Assistant), Red put her chips on the table this season and wound up in the COO chair. And it was high time, too, because we all know that no one gives more heart and soul to the firm than our friend Donna! However, adjusting to her new role hasn’t been easy, and Donna has spent much of this season proving to everyone -- and especially herself -- that she really deserves all the new responsibility she has earned.
Harvey Had Ups and Downs
This season was all about Harvey’s struggle to step up and take the reins of PSL -- eyebrows were definitely raised (some internally) by his decisions to promote Donna and bring Alex Williams to the firm. Harvey also began a relationship with his former therapist, Dr. Paula Agard, and while things got off to a rocky start, their romance has begun to blossom. However, are there clouds on the horizon in the wake of Donna’s kiss?
The Firm Got a New Partner
The addition of Harvey’s old buddy Alex Williams to the PSL ranks brought some big-name clients and some much-needed firepower to the firm, but the move came with some serious headaches. For starters, Tommy Bratton (name partner at longtime PSL rival Bratton Gould, and Alex’s newly-former boss) wasn’t too keen on the idea of Alex jumping ship and taking his blue chip client list with him. Meanwhile, Louis worried that Alex’s arrival would threaten his own friendship status with Harvey. The biggest problem, however, was that it turned out that Alex was tangled up in the complicated web of the Reform Corp/Masterson Construction case, a revelation that would lead to a battle of wills between Harvey and Mike and once again put the firm in peril.
And Speaking of Reform Corp...
Mike struggled to balance his allegiance to the firm with his desire to fight for the little guy this season, but when he was approached by a grieving father who was convinced that there was more to the death of his incarcerated son than authorities were letting on, how could Mike say no? With Oliver’s help, Mike began to uncover a shady link between prison conglomerate Reform Corp and Masterson Construction. Problem was, Masterson was one of Alex’s clients, and they didn’t take kindly to Mike’s snooping. The case put Mike at odds with Harvey and Alex, and even led to the death of Frank Gallo. It was eventually revealed that Alex was being blackmailed to keep quiet in the face of his client’s wrongdoing, but when the dust finally settled Mike, Harvey, and Alex had blown the lid off a massive criminal conspiracy, and Tommy Bratton had been shown the door.
Rachel and Her Dad Took Down a Predator
The evolution of Rachel Zane, Attorney, continued as she and her dad teamed up to take down Arthur Kittridge, a predatory CEO with a history of making advances on the women who worked for him, one of whom happened to be Robert’s sister. The personal connection proved to be a little too much for Robert to bear and he nearly blew up the case during a deposition with the sleazy CEO. Luckily, Rachel was able to keep a level head and eventually find a way for the duo of Zane and Zane to come out on top.
Jessica Is Getting Disbarred
Mike and Harvey tried to make a headline-grabbing power play by taking on new Deputy Attorney General Andrew Malick, not realizing that Malick was a former colleague of Harvey’s with a serious axe to grind. Things got heated quickly, and Malik got personal by raking Donna over the coals in court (even insinuating that Donna slept her way into her new position!). Harvey and Mike eventually won the case, but that snake Malik wasn’t ready to give up his grudge against Harvey, and he used his position to have Jessica disbarred for her admission that she knew Mike was a fraud -- and this time, there wasn’t a thing that could be done to stop it.
Eli Gould Came Calling
Tommy Bratton’s fall in the wake of the Reform Corp case didn’t sit well at all with Bratton Gould’s other name partner, Eli Gould. In retaliation, Eli came gunning for Alex’s biggest client in an attempt to blackmail Alex into returning to the firm. Luckily, Louis had by then put aside his own enmity, and he and Alex managed to flip the script on Eli and nullify his shady play. Looks like Alex is here to stay!
Louis Had an Emotional Epiphany
After a serious rough patch -- Tara’s departure; Alex’s arrival; the sexual harassment allegation (what?!) -- Louis needed a win to lift his spirits. So when a chance meeting with Sheila Sazs, now living in New York and engaged to be married, led to Sheila’s indecent proposal of one more fling before she walks down the aisle, Louis was powerless to resist. The indiscretion led to some serious soul-searching, and Louis eventually realized he was still in love with his former flame. In fact, it was this powerful revelation that may have directly led to…
Of course, we saved the best for last! It was beginning to seem as if the unspoken feelings between Donna and Harvey would never be consummated; after all, Harvey and Paula’s relationship was in full bloom, and Donna swore to Mike that she and Harvey didn’t want to be together. But Louis’ anguished admission of his love for Sheila must have stirred something in Donna, because she planted a passionate kiss on Harvey that left him -- and us – speechless! The question is, what happens next?
