Actor Ryan Phillippe, who takes on the lead role as Bob Lee Swagger in the new USA Network series Shooter, announced Friday that he has taken on another role recently: he's now an ambassador to the organization Hidden Heroes.
Founded by Senator Elizabeth Dole, Hidden Heroes' mission is to help the caregivers dedicated to tending to the veterans in their lives -- many of whom have devastating wounds, illnesses, and injuries which require care long after they have left the military health care system. At HiddenHeroes.org, our country's 5.5 million veterans and caregivers can access hundreds of carefully vetted resources and a secure space for communicating with other caregivers. It's also a place where those wishing to help our military caregivers can reach out.
Phillippe, who appeared on the TODAY show Friday to share his experience with Hidden Heroes -- including a recent visit to the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx -- explained his interest in the organization:
