Peter Scanavino stars as Assistant District Attorney Sonny Carisi on NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," now in its 24th season and the longest-running primetime drama series of all time.Born and raised in Colorado and after briefly studying in Boston, Scanavino caught a bus to New York where he has remained ever since.Scanavino has worked extensively in theater, with credits that include the Tony Award-nominated "Shining City" on Broadway as well as revivals of Eric Bogosian's "subUrbia" and Howard Korder's "Boy's Life," both at Manhattan's Second Stage Theater. Most recently, Scanavino appeared in the New York premiere of the Simon Stephens play "Harper Regan" at the Atlantic Theater Company.Scanavino recently starred alongside his son Leo in "Social Distance," a Netflix anthology series from Jenji Kohan and Hilary Weisman Graham. Other television credits include NBC's "The Blacklist" and "Chicago P.D.," HBO's "The Leftovers" and Cinemax's "Banshee." In film, he starred in Josh Radnor's award-winning directorial debut "Happythankyoumoreplease," Tom Gilroy's "The Cold Lands" and Matthew Watts' "Mutual Friends."In addition to acting, Scanavino's passion for cooking led him to an internship at Dan Barber's Michelin-starred restaurant Blue Hill after graduating from the French Culinary Institute.Scanavino currently lives in New York City with his wife and children.
