Actor Bio

James Reynolds is an Emmy-winning actor best known for his role as Abe Carver on NBC's "Days of our Lives."

Reynolds, a four-time nominee, won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2018. He became the third African American to win this trophy and the first in over 35 years. Reynolds is the second "Days of Our Lives" actor to win the award and the first since the 1970s. Reynolds is proud to have been a principal actor, in one series, longer than any African American actor in the history of television, daytime or nighttime. He has portrayed the stalwart Abe Carver on "Days of Our Lives" for more than 40 years and counting.

Reynolds also starred in the CBS nighttime series "Time Express" with Vincent Price, NBC's "Generations" and the syndicated "Keeper of the Wild." He has performed in over 50 television shows and films and over 3,500 episodes of "Days of our Lives."

A native of Oskaloosa, Kansas, Reynolds has been named one of that state's 105 Greatest Citizens: a list that includes Dwight Eisenhower, Emilia Earhart and Gale Sayers among other notables of the Sunflower State. He has served on the Kansas State Historical Society board for over 20 years. A former Marine and Vietnam veteran, Reynolds was the longest-serving U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs spokesperson for hospitalized veterans. He has also made over 20 trips to visit troops around the world for the USO and Armed Forces Entertainment.

Reynolds and his wife Lissa are the owners and co-artistic directors of the Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena. Fremont Centre Theatre was the last home for Ray Bradbury's Pandemonium Theatre. Reynolds and Lissa are founding members of the South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC). Currently they serve on the board of directors of that organization. They are past recipients of South Pasadena's Business Persons of the Year Award. The couple has also been presented the prestigious Gold Crown Award by the Pasadena Arts Council, and have been holders of the South Pasadena Image Award bestowed by the mayor of that city on citizens who have worked in the community to enhance its image.
