If you go to the beach this summer, we hope you have a better day than Cora Tannetti (Jessica Biel) and Frankie Belmont (Eric Todd). The Sinner begins when Cora stabs Frankie to death in front of his friends, her family, and everyone else at the beach. But we don’t want to spoil anything else about USA's upcoming eight-part limited series because it will keep you guessing all summer long.
Instead, we know you love a good thriller, so if you dug these recent hits, then The Sinner is sure to be your newest TV obsession.
1. Gone Girl
What It Is: Nick (Ben Affleck)’s perfect wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) goes missing, but as they discover more clues, has someone been setting Nick up the whole time?

2. The Night Of
What It Is: Naz (Riz Ahmed) wakes up from a one-night stand with his partner murdered while he holds the knife that killed her.
Why The Night Of Fans Will Love The Sinner: The Night Of is another limited event series that builds mystery right up to the final episode. Plus, both shows feature a dogged, street-wise sleuth (one amateur, one professional) determined to get to the bottom of what happened.
3. The Girl On The Train
What It Is: Rachel (Emily Blunt) witnesses Megan (Haley Bennett)’s murder while commuting to work, but no one will believe her. Not even her ex-husband, who has Rachel convinced that her alcoholism ruined their marriage.
Why Girl on the Train fans Will Love The Sinner: Rachel is another protagonist whose confessions, like Cora's, are suspect. Plus, both stories are set against the backdrop of small-town life, which make the events that much more shocking!
4. Big Little Lies
What It Is: A group of mothers (Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz, Shailene Woodley, and Laura Dern) tell the police the story of elementary school PTA feuds that leads to a murder.

What It Is: Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) commits suicide and leaves behind 13 tapes which Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) listens to in order to find out why she did it.
Why 13 Reasons Why Fans Will Love The Sinner: Both series start with a tragedy and then gradually fill in the bigger picture with events from the past. Instead of suicide, Cora commits murder, but in both shows, we're not sure what led these people to do the unthinkable.
What It Is: A mother (Brie Larson) and her son (Jacob Tremblay) try to escape the kidnapper who has enslaved them for five years.
Why Room Fans Will Love The Sinner: Creepy and suspenseful, both Room and The Sinner capture the desperation of someone imprisoned -- one quite literally and the other, by her traumatic past. Both main characters are also mothers of young boys.
7. Side Effects
What It Is: Steven Soderbergh's thriller focuses on Emily (Rooney Mara), who stabs her husband (Channing Tatum) while taking prescription medication for depression.
Why Side Effects Fans Will Love The Sinner: In both critically acclaimed dramas, a murder takes place with seemingly no known motivation. In Side Effects, it appears to be a product of sleepwalking and in The Sinner a momentary "snap." But what's the real motive that lies beneath?
Find out why she did it when The Sinner premieres Wednesday, Aug. 2, on USA Network!
