Warning: Article and video contain spoilers for "Part I" of The Sinner
Now that you’ve discovered The Sinner is this summer’s hit crime show, delve deeper into USA Network’s limited series with a new behind-the-scenes video.
In the piece, director Antonio Campos, executive producer Derek Simonds, and star Jessica Biel discuss the difficulties in shooting the show’s key lake scenes.
On the first day of filming, the crew was worried that their already-tight schedule of three days would be cut even shorter when Biel showed up sick. But the actress defied her illness and managed to complete her work.
“Of all the days to be sick, you have to be in the water,” Biel says. “So that was challenging, just physically being able to get into the water, and doing everything we needed to be able to do.”
Creating the murder scene provided its own obstacles. In addition to the emotional intensity required, certain technical aspects had to be addressed to ensure the special effects worked properly.
“The actual stabbing sequence was one continuous shot,” Simonds says. “Without the edits, it feels like it’s really happening in front of you.”
