Warning: Contains Spoilers for Season 6 of Suits!
The last episode of Suits ended on a high note, but there was so much more to the season than Mike’s triumphant return to the P.S.L. fold. If you can’t quite recall all the ins and outs (and there were a lot of them), we recommend you carve out some time to catch up on episode 616, “Character and Fitness.” Rewatch not an option? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered; here’s our rundown of all the important stuff to get you in prime viewing condition before the big season premiere this Wednesday.
Harvey and Louis Took the Wheel ... Together
After Jessica made the announcement that she was leaving, the team at P.S.L. found themselves scrambling once again to keep the firm afloat. And they almost didn’t make it this time, what with Harvey being reluctant to step up and fill Jessica’s shoes (even though everyone knew he should) and Louis being so eager to show the world that he was ready to lead (even though everyone knew he shouldn’t) that he almost started a war with Rand, Kaldor, Zane. Luckily, Harvey finally stepped in to set matters straight, and he and Louis eventually agreed that for the time being, they would be co-managing partners.
Harvey Forgave His Mom
Jessica’s departure loomed large this past season, and Donna helped Harvey see that the only way he’d be able to move forward with his work family is if he finally made peace with his real family. And while the path to forgiveness was never going to be simple (not trying to diminish the magnitude of the hurt that Lily Specter caused, but Harvey had plenty to apologize for as well), Harvey and his mom were eventually able to begin the work of repairing their broken relationship. So heartwarming, so many tears!
Donna Wanted More
Our dear Red has always worked so hard to help everyone else, so we were super-excited when it looked like she would finally score a big win of her own with The Donna (shouts to her business partner Benjamin, who built that amazing Virtual Secretary device in Donna’s digital image). But that dream came to an abrupt end due to pesky patent law, leading Donna to realize that she needed something more out of life…even if she wasn’t sure what that something was.
Tara Broke Louis's Heart
Louis decided to tell Tara the truth about how he used the whole Mike situation to get his name on the wall, and it did not go well. But it wasn’t the revelation of this low moment in Louis’s life that drove Tara away; it was the way that Louis, in a moment of angry defensiveness, lashed out at his wife-to-be as she tried to process what she had just heard. Louis did his best to apologize, but the damage was done, and in a heartbreaking scene Rachel looked on as Louis was shattered by Tara’s breakup voicemail. Real tears.
Harvey Exploited a Blackmailer
Harvey was blackmailed by Craig Seidel, a member of the New York Bar’s Character and Fitness Committee, who was holding up Rachel’s confirmation hearing in order to get Harvey to sue one of his former employers. It didn’t take long for Harvey to find the leverage he needed to flip the script on this clown, though, and he soon realized that he could exploit that leverage to get Mike into the bar! But Mike was trying to keep things legit and wanted no part of becoming a lawyer if it meant doing dirt to make it happen. That is until…
Mike Tried to Fight for the Little Guy
Mike tried to make good on his promise to do good, but without a license to practice law he learned that the reality of working as a consultant at a cash-strapped legal clinic was not so good. Mike eventually took Harvey up on his offer to get him into the bar, but that meant running a class action suit against one of Seidel’s former employers through the legal clinic. It did turn out that the company was up to some shady stuff, but the whole thing was so not above board and feelings at the clinic were definitely hurt. Still, Mike and Harvey managed to win the case, net the clinic a big check, AND get Mike scheduled for a hearing with the Character and Fitness Committee, so…win-win?
Mike Became a Lawyer!
But it wasn’t easy, because Anita Gibbs pulled some strings to get herself a seat on the Character and Fitness Board and swore to do everything in her power to stop Mike. Mike did everything he could to make his case to the committee, but it was a surprise appearance by Jessica Pearson that finally clinched it. Of course, no sooner was Mike confirmed than Harvey was pitching him about coming back to the firm, and this time Harvey brought Mike an offer he couldn’t refuse. They don’t call him the best closer in the city for nothing, folks -- Mike is coming back to P.S.L.!
