Bob Lee Swagger (Ryan Phillippe) is on the move now so he's got a lot more room to put his skills to use. In this week's Shooter, Swagger begins his plan to clear his name, so he has to juggle several balls in the air at once.
Finding clues, evading capture, and even seeing his wife gives us the most badass Swagger moments yet, such as...
5. Disarming Leo
We know Bob Lee Swagger is no one to mess with (if only Johnson & Co. knew this before getting it all started). But he's not out to get any innocent bystanders. When he gets some supplies from a convenience store, he knows the shopkeepers recognize him from the news -- and all they have to go on is the corrupt info Johnson has been feeding the media. Leo and Doris are scared, so Swagger’s best weapon is his knowledge. explaining the blast radius of the shotgun. Leo questions his shot just long enough for Swagger to disarm him, but not hurt him.
4. Shooting Johnson's Cell Phone
Even Isaac Johnson (Omar Epps) knows that Swagger can take him out in one shot, but if Bob were to do this, then he'd still be on the run and have one less lead to follow. So Swagger gets all the information he can from Johnson, all the while knowing that Johnson isn't going to give up any big leads. Just to make his point, Swagger demonstrates his precise aim and shoots the cell phone out of Johnson's hand. Sparing his life and hitting the bullseye are what Swagger is all about!
3. Training in the Forest
When you’re framed for killing the Ukrainian president in a top-level conspiracy, you can’t go to a regular Crunch gym. Swagger knows how to keep his body in prime shape for the mission he’s got ahead of him. Watching him do push-ups in the woods, target practice on pine cones, and spit-cook a woodland critter for protein are some of the awesome ways Swagger keeps in shape anywhere. It doesn’t hurt that Ryan Philippe clearly got into ripped shape to play the part!
2. Spilling Coffee On His Wife
Bob Lee knows the protocol for a security detail. He keeps his phone call short and banal, talking about lasagna night. The stroke of genius is knocking the coffee on Julie's shirt so she can convincingly excuse herself to the bathroom -- where he is waiting. Even that only buys them a few minutes, and probably uses up this trick for the future. Bob Lee will have to come up with something new the next time he needs to see Julie (Shantel VanSanten) in person.
1. Faking His Own Death
This is one elaborate setup! First, Bob Lee gets a metal hip with his serial number on it from the hospital, and then rigs his shed for an FBI siege. Also, getting the FBI out to his shed is a complex manipulation of setting himself up to be spotted at a nearby shop. Even setting up a target for Johnson to hit is counting on Johnson having good enough aim. But it all goes according to plan, and the explosion of carnage will buy Swagger at least a few episodes of cover before the FBI finds out he’s still out there. Take a look!
