ROMANIAN GOLD BRACELETS
< PREV     NEXT >
While TV thieves are always breaking into high-end penthouses and heavily secured museums, that's not always the case in the real world. Case in point, Sarmizegetusa Regia, an ancient military fortress located in what is now the Orastie Mountains of Romania. Though it is now a UNESCO world heritage site, the fortress was looted between 1995 and 2001 by bands of criminals looking for coins jewelry and other treasure. Amongst the pilfered prizes were two dozen gold bracelets dated to the first century BC - rare treasure, indeed. While more than thirteen of the bracelets have since been recovered, the remaining eleven are still missing, many of which are believed to be in the US.
