MAXFIELD PARRISH MURAL PANELS
Museum founder and prominent art world figure Gertrude Vanderbilt, these mural panels created by the famed painter and illustrator Maxfield Parrish were involved in a heist worthy of White Collar: on the evening of Sunday, July 29th 2002, thieves cut through the ceiling of the West Los Angeles gallery where the pieces were being displayed and sliced the canvases from their frames. Valued at over $2 million each, these massive paintings (each framed panel measured seven feet high and eight feet wide) depict revelers at a party against a backdrop of red mountains.
