LOGLINE:Johnny's (Anthony Michael Hall) visions of a young girl's abduction lead him on a life-and-death race to find "the collector" (Brian Markinson), a disturbed man who kidnaps and indoctrinates young women.
SYNOPSIS: Sarah (Nicole deBoer) pays Johnny (Anthony Michael Hall) an unexpected visit to ask for his help. She confides that she's worried about Erica (Joely Collins), a missing homeless girl whom she's been working with at the community outreach center. The two head to the center, where Johnny is hit with a vision of Erica trapped in a bedroom. Johnny immediately contacts Walt (Chris Bruno) and they decide to hit the streets with Erica's photograph. Meanwhile, an unseen man (Brian Markinson) is holding Erica captive and orders her to put on makeup and a party dress.
On the streets just outside Bangor, Walt and Johnny question a prostitute named Tami (Monika Mar-Lee), who says Erica used to stay with her from time to time but that she hasn't seen her in more than a week. In Tami's motel room, Johnny gets a vision of Erica and then of a school bus marked with the number 226 stopped in front of a suburban house. He and Walt manage to track down the bus, which leads them to the house from Johnny's vision. As they ring the doorbell, Roscoe (Bill Mondy) and a few backup officers surround the place. Meanwhile, a panicky Erica summons her courage and attacks her masked kidnapper. She screams for help at the sound of the doorbell, but the kidnapper ultimately restrains her and opens the door for a pizza delivery boy. At the suburban home, Walt and Johnny ring the doorbell again and are greeted by a surprised-looking housewife named Linda (Dedee Pfeiffer).
Unable to find any leads at Linda's house, Johnny and Walt are about to leave when Johnny is thrown into a vision of Linda trapped in the same distinctive bedroom as the one in which he saw Erica. Snapping back to reality, Johnny asks Linda if she's ever been abducted. She reluctantly admits she was kidnapped three years earlier by a "gentle but dangerous man," who punished her whenever she failed to meet his standards of perfection. She then agrees to help them look for Erica. When Johnny is suddenly hit with another vision of Linda and her abductor, he hears a distinctive whistle in the background. As the vision ends, Walt gets word from the station that they've turned up further information on Erica, which he relays to Sarah.
At the sheriff's station, Johnny touches an item from Tami's motel room and is slammed into a vision of a masked man threatening Erica as they sit down to eat a steak dinner. Erica lunges at him with a steak knife, knocking off his mask, but her captor regains control of the situation, picks up a plastic bag, and places it over her head, suffocating her to death. Breaking from the startling vision, Johnny fears that time is running out. Linda then leads them to the spot where she was released from her kidnapping years earlier. There, Johnny gets a vision of Linda bound and blindfolded, standing in front of six or seven other blindfolded women. He senses that the man they're searching for doesn't abduct women - he "collects" them. On a tip from Roscoe, they decide to head 80 miles north towards a freight line that crosses a two-lane service road.
Meanwhile, Sarah visits Erica's mother Denise (Elizabeth McLaughlin) at her home to inform her that her daughter is missing. Denise appears indifferent, stating that she hasn't had a daughter for nearly three years. Elsewhere, Johnny and Linda sit down for coffee at a truck stop where Walt shows Erica's photo to employees. Inquiring about the strong scent in the air, Johnny and Linda learn that an old soap factory is located 10 miles away. Linda quickly excuses herself to find a restroom as Johnny gets up to pay the bill. At the counter, Johnny is thrown into a vision of a man ordering two steak dinners. That vision suddenly morphs into his earlier vision of the masked man preparing to suffocate Erica with the plastic bag. Everything freezes and Johnny zeros in on the man's wristwatch. Snapping back to the present, Johnny realizes they have less than one hour to save Erica.
Looking for Linda, Johnny learns she's already taken off in Walt's cruiser. As he and Walt try to make sense of Linda's sudden departure, the waitress reveals that the caretaker of the abandoned soap factory was in earlier that evening and ordered two steak dinners. The two quickly commandeer a truck and race towards the factory, where they find Walt's cruiser parked outside. Despite Walt's warnings, Johnny races inside without backup to find Linda, armed and decked out in a party dress. She immediately knocks him out with the butt of a 12-guage shotgun.
Meanwhile, Walt makes his way through the factory and hears Erica's cries coming from below. At the other end of the building, Linda revives Johnny and explains that she's there to reunite with her abductor, "the collector." As Johnny attempts to reason with her, the masked man enters the room. Hit with a vision of this disturbed man's childhood, Johnny realizes that his obsession with perfection stems from his father's extreme expectations. Wielding a shotgun, the man orders Johnny to get down on his knees, but Johnny rushes him, knocking a propane tank off the counter in the process. The valve breaks and gas begins to escape. In the scuffle, the gun clatters away and burning candles are knocked over, igniting a towel hanging from a propane stove.
The two continue to struggle and the mask is ripped off, revealing "the collector's" face. When Linda presses her shotgun against Johnny's back, Johnny is hit with a vision of Walt entering the room as the kitchenette burns in the background. Turning towards Walt in the vision, Linda sees flames inching towards the propane tank and pushes "the collector" aside to save him from the inevitable blast. The fireball narrowly misses him. Walt then shoots "the collector" in the shoulder, but he returns fire, killing Walt with a shot to the chest.
Back in the present, Johnny still feels Linda pressing the shotgun against his back when Walt arrives. Determined to alter the events from his vision, Johnny urges Walt to put his gun down and Walt complies as Johnny distracts Linda, preventing her from noticing the impending explosion. When the tank explodes, Linda and "the collector" vanish through the flames into the factory while Johnny and Walt break down the bedroom door to save Erica. Moments after the two rescue her, the building bursts into flames. Meanwhile, Linda and "the collector" are nowhere to be found.
Later, back at the sheriff's office, Walt and Sarah decide to let Erica stay with them to help her get back on her feet. Walt informs Johnny that he has a team sifting through the debris at the factory, but both agree it's highly unlikely that Linda and "the collector" could have survived the fire. Meanwhile, Linda and her abductor drive down a dark, lonely highway and vanish out of sight...
