THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO COLLIER

by Amy Berg

Looks like you guys might be stuck with me. Craig Sweeny is back from his honeymoon, and yet here I am blogging it up again. So was my blog last week just really good, or was Craig too busy upon his return to participate? The answer is yes.

By the way, we're all really excited around here today. We just locked the cut of the season finale! All that's left to do is music and the sound mix. Before you know it, it'll be appearing on your television screens (on August 27, tell everyone you know). In case you're wondering, we really love it and we think you guys will too. And those of you who've been paying close attention this season will be rewarded with some huge payoffs.

By the way again, I was cruising some of the fan sites out there and was excited to see such a positive response to The Starzl Mutation. Glad you guys liked it! Expect more of the same in the final three episodes, starting with the reason we're all here ... The Gospel According to Collier.

That Jordan Collier fellow has some balls, doesn't he? I mean, no one stands up to Isabelle and lives to tell about it. That girl is used to getting what she wants whenever she wants it. But now she's finally met her match ... or has she? Maybe Collier was bluffing, maybe his bark is worse than his bite. Guess you'll have to tune in to find out.

When I mentioned last week that we missed Billy Campbell, clearly that was the understatement of the century. The man's such a charismatic talent, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have him back.

And how awesome was it seeing Kyle again? We've been itching to use him all season, but haven't been able to pull the trigger until now. It's so great to watch Chad Faust and Joel Gretsch in scenes together. Their father-son dynamic is so real and richly textured, and the moment at the end when they're reunited makes me cry every time I see it. What? Writers can't be affected by their own work? Who says?!

So not only do we get Jordan Collier and Kyle Baldwin, but this episode also features the return of Diana's sister, April. And she didn't come alone ... she brought her new boyfriend Ben along for the ride. Oh, and what a ride it's going to be.

Maia's prediction will have major repercussions, the ripples from which will be felt by those around her for the remainder of the season. And if she's right about Diana and Ben, maybe much longer.

And how terrific was Conchita Campbell (Maia) in this episode? What a fantastic young actress, we're lucky to have her. And as you can imagine, her character is incredibly fun to write for. At any given moment, something she says can change the entire course of the show.

While we're on the subject of Maia, I'd like to take a moment to clarify her ability for you guys. A lot of you seem to think that because Maia's a precog she can see everything that's going to happen. That's not the case. She only gets glimpses into the future, and a lot of the time what she sees has no context so their meaning can be a little elusive. Moreover, she can't control what she sees and what she doesn't, so she's not immune to surprises.

Now, as if this episode wasn't jam-packed enough, we also welcome Alana Mareva back into the fold. This is great news for Tom ... things are about to get really crazy for him and he's going to need all the support he can get. What do I mean by crazy? Why would I tell you when you can just wait and see for yourself? It's much more fun that way, anyway.

Which reminds me, I have a question to ask all the fans out there who love spoilers ... why? Maybe I just don't get it, but why would you want to take all the fun out of watching your favorite shows? I mean, I understand if you want to find out when a beloved character (e.g. Kyle) is returning or something like that. But the desire to know specific plot points and hear about big revelations before they happen is totally beyond me. It can't possibly enrich your enjoyment of watching the episode, can it? I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong about this. If I am, somebody please tell me.

Alright folks, that's all for this week. Next up is "Terrible Swift Sword" -- another episode you'll have to see to believe.

Au revoir!
