TOM IS NO FORTUNATE SON

Throughout the season, Music Producer Elliot Lurie will be taking us through the process by which each episode's music is chosen.

The one small song spot in this episode turned out to be quite an adventure.

As it was to play in the sports car during Tom's fantasy, the initial suggestion was that it be something from his youth. It seems we all have a special feeling for the songs we loved when we were younger and in Tom's fantasy world it might make sense for him to be hearing something from back in the day.

A number of these were tried. We started with some 80's things but they all made Tom seem like a New-Waver or a big-hair rocker. The 80's did have a distinctive sound!

So, we went a little further back and the favorite among the producers was "Fortunate Son" by John Fogerty. Unfortunately, Mr. Fogerty's representatives turned down our request to use the song.

Ultimately we changed course and decided that a contemporary, fun, top-down kind of song would work just fine.

K.T. Tunstall's "Black Horse and Cherry Tree" had that great "Woo Woo" opening that lifted the top of the scene and just seemed to make you smile and enjoy the ride.
