MARIAH CAREY

Mariah Carey

The Ex Factor: The Long Island, New York native’s love life became inextricably linked to her musical career when she met Sony Music mogul Tommy Mottola ten months after graduating from high school in 1988 and subsequently married the man who was twenty years her senior in an extravagant star-studded wedding in 1993. While her career soared to even higher octaves while they were together, Carey claimed to have felt trapped by her relationship. The couple officially separated in 1997 and finalized their divorce the following year.

Wife Begins Again: After her divorce, Carey hit the NYC social scene with a vengeance, partying late into the night and dating baseball star Derek Jeter in 1998 and Latin pop star Luis Miguel from 1998 to 2001. During that time, she also released new albums that showcased her sexier side. After suffering her first professional failures and experiencing some emotional troubles in 2001, Carey retreated out of the public eye for a much-needed recuperation. In 2005 she roared back onto the charts with “The Emancipation of Mimi,” which became the bestselling album of the year and garnered her three more Grammy awards - for the first time since her debut sixteen years earlier - thereby reasserting her position as a chart-topping Diva.

Love Interest: In April 2008, Carey found her “soulmate” in actor/rapper, Nick Cannon, 27, whom she married in a surprise wedding on her private estate in the Bahamas after reportedly only knowing him for a month. Maybe she finally found her Dream Lover.
